How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I had never received the transfer in that, I was able to clear the huge fees balances for the children. They are now concentrating with their studies without being interrupted due to lack of fees. Furthermore, very soon I will be living in a comfortable house with my family once I finalize with the construction of the roof.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well for dispatching the cash transfers directly to the poor households in the community. Through the aid, I was able to improve me living standard because I use it wisely. I thank the organisation for the transfer.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent $100 of the transfer to educate my 3 children by paying their school fees, they were regularly send home due to the huge fees arrears. In addition, I sent $50 to seek medical care for my child who was suffering from malaria. Also, I purchased adequate food stuffs for the family. Furthermore, I planning to spend the remaining amount to purchase timber and Paying labor charges for the construction of the roof of my house. This because I have started building it but I halted due to lack of adequate finances.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The biggest difference in my daily life ever since I received the first transfers is that I now own a decent house. It has always been my dream to construct a big and good house but due to my financial status, I could not afford it. The previous house that I used to shelter in was in a very poor condition and whenever it could rain it was hectic. Some of my family members never had peace since when it's time to sleep they were forced to sleep at my neighbor's house of which they were uncomfortable. After constructing this beautiful house, the problem is resolved. My children also have a special room for their study at night and they are no longer interfered like before. I am so thankful for that.

What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building materials such as iron sheets, building poles, threads, and nails. I purchased all these with the intention of constructing a new house becasue I have been staying in a temporary hut. In addition to that, I cleared school fees for my children and bought new uniforms as well. Also with the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family and some other household items

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have a desire to rear and sell livestock such as indigenous goats and cows at our center during market days. Receiving this money will make my dream come true because I intend to use 70,000 shillings to buy 15 goats and five cows which I will sell and get income to assist in my financial needs such as food, clothing etc. I will also use the remaining amount to pay school fees for my children when schools resume.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Selling charcoal is a daunting task that drains one's energy because you have to walk long distances. Evening is my happiest time of day because I get to rest, enjoy a hearty meal and spend time with my loved ones.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I and my husband work as casual labourers dealing in charcoal trading. We get an income of 10,000 shillings per month which is not enough to start my livestock trading business as well as paying school fees for our 4 children. Financial constraints is therefore the biggest hardship in my life.
