How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have seen so many changes in my day to day life. I recently bought a solar powered panel which is cost effective and efficient as compared to the paraffin lamps that I was using previously. It has even become much easier for everyone in the family to charge their phones because we do not have to go and charge our phones at the nearest shopping center like we used to do before.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The organization helps the poor by uplifting their lives. There are those who have educated their kids using the cash transfers while for some the money has helped them in building new descent houses.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the cash on buying a second hand motorcycle which my husband has been using to ferry passengers at a small fee and that is how he earns his daily bread. Initially he was employed by someone where he had to give daily returns of around three hundred shillings which means he could only carry home a few shillings. The story is quite different today because every profit generated from the business now belongs to my family.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference is that I am currently debt free. This makes me a happy person.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was very happy. I could not believe that I had received such amount of money. I saw all my problrms solved.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my transfer to purchase seedlings for my farming purposes. Initially, I could not afford to buy the high breed seeds which give a good harvest. I also paid school fees for my three children and paid court charges that were pending.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to start my own hairdressing business.I plan to purchase the required utilities and set up my own salon so that I can be able to have a stable and reliable source of income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when i come back home from work. Being able to assist my children with their homework, share the evening meal with them and also listen to our favourite radio station with together makes me very happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I face is not having a reliable source of income. Both my husband and I are casual labourers and on so many occasions when work has been scarce, my family has been subjected to eating fewer meals of very small quantities.Aside from that, my children have also been sent away from school on numerous occasions because I could not afford to pay for their school fees. This causes me a lot of stress because I have always wished to provide for them all of their basic needs fully.
