Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. At the time that we received the money I was preparing supper and I heard my phone ring and on checking I found out that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I informed my immediate family members and we broke into a celebration mood. It was one of those happiest moments in
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving payments from GiveDirectly is the house that we were able to build with these transfers. Had I not received the transfer then I do not think I would be able to have a new house as at this moment. I always looked forward to the day we would be able to have money and be able to put up a better structure until GiveDirectly came to my rescue. The debts that were owed to us too and which we were able to clear has brought a lot of peace and made our family stress free. We are so happy as a family and this to us is a great improvement and the biggest difference that we celebrate in our lives.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
We used KES 30000 to help put up a better house for our family. We made a decision to build a bigger and better house since the one that we lived in was so small and would not even allow us to host visitors comfortably. We had all ong been unable to build a better house since we rely on casual jobs to earn income and the income that we make is barely enough to enable us buy food. We used another KES 20000 to pay back debts that were owed to us as a family. This is one of the things that was giving us stress as we always pondered on where we would get the money to be able to pay back the debts. Right now I feel so much at peace to have cleared the debts. It has given us an opportunity to be able to plan on things that will help us as a family going forward. The remaining amount of money was used to buy food and other basic household needs for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My husband and his three brothers inherited a piece of land and a house after their parents died. He lived with them in this house until when he married and they had to leave and look for other places to live. Receiving this money will mean better housing and a reunion with his brothers. I plan on building a bigger and more spacious house so that whenever they visit, they will have a place to sleep. I also plan to buy a dairy cow so that it can supply my family with milk because I have two children that need milk daily.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The changing times and the rising cost of living every day are something that gives me worry. I am grateful that I can provide for my children in these uncertain times.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have supported my siblings for a long time and saving money was not an idea in my mind. This has become a challenge because, with a growing family, one must have some funds somewhere in case of an emergency situation. I am happy that with this transfer, I will be able to save some of the money that I will get when I sell milk from the dairy cow that I will buy.
