How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
We co- own a car wash with my friend and my new goal is to acquire my own car wash machine so that I can be enjoying profits from the business. I believe that I have accomplished my plans at home, I will focus on saving towards buying a machine so that I would earn some good income from the carwash business.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Staffs who were taking us through baraza taught us well. I believe others organization can adopt that. There was nothing which wasn't done well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
So that I can raise money for joining high school fees My second transfers enabled me t buy a dairy cow at a cost of KES 30000, I then paid a debt of KES 8000 and the remaining amount, I spent on buying maize for consumption since we had none.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer, I was at home making breakfast when I overheard my neighbours celebrating and rejoicing. That was when I was eager to know what the occasion was all about. On asking, I was told that they had received their transfers from GiveDirectly. When I reached out to check on my phone, that was when I realised that I had received money too. I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness. I then shared the good news with my wife who was equally happy. we then marked on planning how we would use the funds.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to purchase a dairy cow for my family. I had a dream of acquiring one before but I was unable to realise it due to financial constraints. I am so happy that finally, I have achieved the goal, I am forever indebted for the wonderful gift that lifted my life amazingly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a businessman specialising in a car wash business in the nearby town. I am married and blessed with three children. When I received my money I considered buying a dairy cow worth KES 35,000 to cut down on the cost of buying milk daily. I was unable to afford one before due to financial constraints as a result of school fees responsibilities. I then decided to offset the debt with the remaining part of the transfer. I am so grateful for the milestones that I have achieved.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I started an enterprise of car wash which earns me some money to provide for my family. This business has not been impressive and profitable to me. Therefore this makes me think of venturing into dairy farming but the financial challenge is making it difficult for me to kick start this business. I normally earn about KES 400 which is way below to support this idea. This money makes me see light at the end of the tunnel and gives me hope in this business. I will set KES 100000 to jumpstart dairy farming to enable me to tap more income into my family through the sale of milk and other animal products like meat. This will make me happy as I will see my family living a better life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My business is the source of joy and happiness to me regardless of the little profit. This business helps me to provide for my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
With the high cost of living and high food prices, life has been unbearable for me. I struggle financially to provide food and family basic needs. I rely on my car wash business which earns me little of about KES 400 daily.
