Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Receiving the transfers meant so much to me. I was at home with my grandchildren narrating to them interesting stories. I am of 90 years of age, not in a position to read as I had a problem with my eyesight. I was informed of Give Directly transfers by my grand daughter, I was so happy, since birth, I have never received such a large amount of money from any charitable organization. I thank Give Directly so much, how I wish to meet the donors, so as to pray over their lives for prosperity.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
With the new beddings and a bed, the biggest difference in my daily life is that I am in a position to sleep well, with my age, I could not walk straight due to backache developed as a result of sleeping on the floor.I feel better as the bed and beddings are very comfortable.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a widow, and for the longest time, I have been sleeping on the floor as my bed is broken. I had developed backache problem since sleeping on the floor was not comfortable. My beddings were also torn and old as I had been using them for so long. I used part of the transfers of Kshs 20,000 to buy a bed, mattress and beddings. Since then I have been having sound sleep like a little baby. I also bought a cow, for remembrance ,and to sell in the future should any emergency arise.I bought two of them worth Kshs 20,000 I never had a separate kitchen, I used Kshs 15,000 to build a kitchen. The main house is now in order since I built a kitchen.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a semi-permanent and spacious house for me. My house is small and I share a room with my grandchildren both male and female. My plan is to use KES 40000 to expand my house with two rooms so that it can accommodate us comfortably. I also need to buy dairy cattle to supplement my family with milk since I do not have any.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My son has been imprisoned for 6 years now. For the last few months, he has been having inflammation is he back born which results into a boil. This has been giving me sleepless nights. But I am now happy because he has called me today and informed me that he is now doing me.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial instability is the biggest challenge that I am currently facing. This is because I am doing casual work that earns me as little as KES 2000 per month. Due to this, I have been struggling to cater for my basic needs like food.
