Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I did not believe that I could get such huge amounts of money from anyone any sooner and this made me so happy. I knew that my desire to own a dairy cow was finally going to be actualized and I could not keep calm about it. The transfer meant a total transformation in my life and I am still grateful to GiveDirectly for this. so much.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life that has been brought about by this transfer is the peace of mind that I have had since I received money from GiveDirectly. The fact that I was able to not only buy a dairy cow of my own but also pay school fee for my nephew has brought total peace in my life. No one will look down upon me any longer since I also have an asset to take pride in and which will help me and my family even in future. The assets and the food that I bought with the exra money has also gven me an opportunity to save up on the little that I get from my casual works and I am optimistic that my life will no longer be the same going forward. I am looking forward to making more investmentgs that will improve my living standards and that of my family after receiving the second transfer.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 38000 to buy a hybrid dairy cow and used KES 10000 to pay school fees for my nephew who is under my care. The remaining amount of money was used to buy clothes and other basic neccesities for the family. I had been taking care of my brothers cattle for quite a long time but the little amount of money got from the pay that I received from him was hardly enough to buy one of my own. I could only remain hopeful that one day I will accumulate enough money and be able to buy one of my own and move away from the shame of taking care of someone's cattle and having none for myself. GiveDirectly came to my rescue and I was able to buy one and even remain with some extra cash that saw me pay school fees for my nephew, buy clothes for us and food to take us through a couple of days. This has given me time to work hard and save the little income that I get now for future use. I feel so much indebted to GiveDirectly for enabling me realize my dreams earlier than I had expected.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I manage my brother's farm where there are a lot of farming activities being carriedout including cattle grazing, poultry keeping and crop farming. All these are his and he has always given me an okey to start and venture into like for like farm activities in this particular farm. Receiving this money will mean that I will be able to start something like the above on my brother's farm but on a small scale level. I will then gradually increase my shares through the returns I get from the investment.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I spend most of my day managing my brother's farm and taking part in almost all the farm activities ranging from poultry, crop and cattle management. I always feel happy while carrying all these tasks since I developed an interest since childhood. The most interesting/happiest part is in the morning is when I collect the products from poultry, crop and cattle and take them to the nearby shopping center. When the proceeds are high, I get higher profits and my boss rewards me handsomely.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have developed an interest in having a farm of my own since I manage my brothers investment in poultry, livestock and crop farming. I am unable to have one of my own since it requires a sizeable amount of cash to start. Now I am left with no option but to continue managing the farm and hoping that one day I will be able to have one for myself.
