How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
For the last three years, most of my income has been focus on pay my college fees and because of my meager income balancing my household needs and paying school fees was a challenge and the only solution by then was to borrow from friends and neighbors who got tired of helping out because I could not settle their debts on time . I am glad that with GiveDirectly's transfer it has lighten some of my burden since the last two semester, I was able to pay college fees on time without borrowing money from anyone . I also bought a dairy cow , therefore , I have cut costs of buying milk from neighbors like I did before .
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly was very transparent since they gave everyone an opportunity to enroll on the project at their free will and the fact that they never involved intermediaries on enrollment , the process was never biased . I do not see what GiveDirectly did wrong at its operation .
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent 40,000 KES of my second transfer to buy dairy cow . From the dairy cow , I now get free milk hence it has reduced the expenses of buying milk from my neighbors that I would incur before . I also cultivated maize on two and a half acre of land by employing modernized technic . I therefore anticipate better yields comparing with the previous ones. The remaining amount I bought clothes and decent seats .

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Ever since I had always wished to continue with my education without any hindrance. I am pursuing a course in civil engineering and I had already completed my module one course. To upgrade to module two, I first had to complete my module one school fees. I can testify that GiveDirectly came into my life at the right time since had it not have been for the transfer, I would not have been able to clear my fee arrears. I am now glad since I will be starting my module two classes very soon.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I have never been happy in my entire life like how I was the moment I received my transfer. First, I had never received such an amount before, and also, I knew that the money would enable me to achieve my dreams.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
When I received my first transfer, I used KES 26000 to clear the fee arrears I was owing to the school. I settled on this so that I would be allowed to continue with my course by upgrading to module two from module one. Ever since I married, we have been living with our parents since I am still a student. This money allowed me to live an independent life with my wife. This is because I spent some amount to buy beddings, seats, and utensils as we did not have. I used the remaining amount to buy a heifer. When it reproduces, I will be selling milk to my neighbors and use the money to cater for our needs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will help me clear my college fees arrears amounting to 26,000 Kenya shillings.I will then buy a dairy cow which will provide me with milk for consumption and for sale.I will also buy household stuff and bedding for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
After having breakfast I go and work in my farm where I have grown beans and sorghum.I work there till noon. After lunch I relax for the better part of the afternoon. This is the happiest part of my day since I relax listening to the radio. In the evening I meet and interact with my friends and relatives from the village.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is pursuing my dreams in education.Due to lack of school fees I did not perform well because I was in and out of school. At one time I was forced to stay at home for one whole term due to lack of school fees.My dream after completing secondary school was to go to university to study education.I did not make the cut off marks and was therefore forced to settle for a diploma course in Civil engineering which I started one year ago. This is two years after completing my education.I had to do casual jobs to raise my school fees since my parents cannot support me.I now have a young family at 21 years old and still going on with my education. It is really tough.
