How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
For the coming year and beyond, I intend to increase my efforts at work with the aim of securing a promotion, which would result in higher pay and allow me to maintain the quality of education that I have been providing for my children. To achieve this, I plan on seeking advice from my manager on how to go about this process as a higher job rank would mean a higher salary.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Based on my opinion, Givedirectly has effectively enhanced our standard of living by providing us with lump sum transfers. As a result, there have been notable improvements in the quality of our housing structures, as well as investments made in income-generating activities. However, the organization should improve their selection of phones to ensure they are of higher quality and originality. The phones currently being provided have network issues and a short battery life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent $350 of the transfer money on paying the school fees of three children that I was transferring to a better school, as their previous one had a poor performance record. My main motivation for doing so was to ensure that they receive the best education possible, as I strongly believe that education is an important tool for promoting economic equality. Additionally, I used the remaining amount of money to purchase two dry sacks of maize for their consumption. I opted to buy the two sacks at that particular time because they were relatively inexpensive during the harvest season, and I anticipated that the price would increase later, making it unaffordable for me.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. One of my relatives had already given me a call and he wanted to know if I had received money from GiveDirectly. I checked and confirmed that indeed I had been sent the sum of $550 by GiveDirectly. I made a call to my mother just to check whether she had received hers too and as we conversed I could hear some background noise from other villagers who were already in a celebration mood. The amount of happiness within the entire village was just amazing. To me this was a perfect opportunity to purchase a motorcycle that would greatly help me with mobility as my work required that I move from village to village in search of clients. I am so glad that this dream was made a reality courtesy of GiveDirectly transfers.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the status that has changed. People now see me differently unlike before and I am so happy for this. My work has been made easier since I can now move freely and reach out to more clients. My salary too is more steady than it was before and I am even planning to take my children to better Schools going forward. With the salary now steady and my husband working as a teacher, I feel I am more ready to pay school fees in a better school.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used the entire transfer of $5500 to buy a second hand motorcycle. This was something that I had always wanted to do since it would help in making work easier for me by easing mobility. I work with a microfinance where I give loans to clients inside villages and reaching out to them was a little tough sometimes. I work with targets and very often I would fall short of targets due to poor mobility. I feel so much happy that my work has been made easy courtesy of GiveDirectly transfers

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Buying milk every morning from milk vendors is not only expensive but it poses health risks because of how it is handled. I have been buying it for the last 2 years for $0.5 per liter. My 3 children require at least 3liters per day and this translates to $1.5 per day. I desire to buy a cow worth $400 which will produce 7-8 liters per day. This will save me the cost of having to buy milk every morning.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My sister-in-law was recently employed on permanent terms by Kenya Commercial Bank on permanent terms 4months ago. I am happy because she will support our family financially
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Life has a fair share of challenges and the main one that I face is financial instability. My husband works as a teacher and because of a loan he took from a bank his salary is just $40 a month. This money is not enough to meet even his upkeep leave alone his family's. I earn $200 which caters for school fees for our children in school, food, and clothing. The school fees is $150 for my two children leaving me with $50 to spread across other pressing needs of the family.
