How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different because I was able to buy new building materials which I used to erect a new house that is more spacious and can accommodate my family quite comfortably as compared to the small structure that i used to live in before. Initially I had a small house which could barely accommodate my family and it was quite uncomfortable sharing the small structure with my kids because there was lack of privacy.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I think the organization helped the needy by giving them unconditional cash transfers that helps them alleviate their lives. For instance, for me I was able to build a new house for my family which i would have never done were it not for the transfers.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used the money to buy new clothes and food for my family because those were the most urgent needs at that particular moment. I also used a good portion of the amount to lease a farm from one of my close relatives at a cost of around 12000 KES. Apart from that, I also bought a new mattress at a cost of approximately 6000 KES and seedlings worth 6000 KES Ploughing expenses were worth around - 3500 KES

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is owning my dream house where I stay comfortably. Most of the people could not believe that I could build such a beautiful house. I can only thank GiveDirectly for making my dream come true.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the money I felt happy, It was just like a dream. I decide to confirm from my Mpesa just to be sure and really thanked God for the blessing.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
Staying in a first house as per our tradition is not allowed for a long time and the idea of moving to the second one was ringing strongly in my mind. The first one is normally very small but this is where I have been living due to lack of money to build a spacious one and the neighbour had also branded me all sorts of names which made me believe that I could never own a decent one. when I received my first transfer, I decided to spend a larger portion of it on building a decent spacious house. I am glad that right now I stay in my dream house like the rest of the people in our village. The remaining amount went on paying for labour for the person who prepared my land using a tractor in readiness for planting sugarcane. I am certain of getting income later on from it .

Receiving this money means a big support that will go along way to help me and my household realize our goals. I am planning to spend the money on building a new house since the one I am currently living in, is small to accommodate my household members.
