How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that I have two additional dairy cows that gives me enough milk to sell. This has supported us in paying school fees for our children. My beans selling business has greatly improved and it has reduced the family feuds with my husband. I have been able to understand and support my husband whenever he needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly did so well in keeping their promise that they were going to help us. It was hard to believe that the cash was free and unconditional but once it was fulfilled we felt so happy about it. People who have been lied to before have a tendency of doubting every other person coming after such an encounter and we were not exceptional. A lot of people doubted the fact that GiveDirectly will give us money for free but when we received this, we were so happy. On the other hand, I do not see anything negative about GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used my second trasnsfer to buy a dairy cow worth KES 35000 and used KES 10000 to improve my business. KES 15000 was used to buy basic household needs. Dairy cow shall help me a lot in terms of raising enough money to feed the family while I sell the surplus milk to help me meet other family needs. The KES 10000 that I invested in my business has seen me make more profits and be able to support my husband to take care of the family by paying school fees. These investments shall always remind us of the support thst we got from GiveDirectly.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am happy because Give Directly transfer is a miracle from God.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so happy when I received the transfer. I kept checking to confirm that it was true because I was among the last people in our village to receive my transfer in the evening. I called my husband to inform him and he was also happy. We are so grateful for Give Directly funds.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
After I collected the transfer that I received from Give Directly, we all sat down as a household with our children and agreed on how to spend it : we sent 13000 KES to my child in college for accommodation and upkeep, bought a cow worth 28000 KES that is now giving us milk, built a house with 8000 KES and bought food with the balance.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship we have faced in life is lack of well-paying jobs for our children who have completed their studies. We sold virtually everything (cows and land) to finance their studies. Currently, we struggle to live because we are left with no cow to milk and inadequate land to till.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is at the evening when returning home (from casual labor) with food and some funds for our family. This means that we have something to eat and money to buy other basic necessities. Without casual work, we find it extremely challenging to survive.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that my daughter who is at University will complete her studies. We have been wondering how and where to raise funds for paying fees and ensuring that our daughter pursues her dream goal.
