How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Subsistence farming is the main activity in this community. I saw an opportunity for providing land preparation services like ploughing and therefore bought two bulls and a mould board plough. We offer ploughing service at a fee and this has become our major source of income. People prefer my services since they are readily available and considerate compared to unpredictable tractor services that are expensive. I have since engaged other two young men in this activity who also earn a living from it. I am no longer worried on how to provide for my family's basic needs since I have a reliable source of income unlike before when I used to offer cheap casual labor services in the sugarcane plantation that was tedious with meager earnings. At least I have been empowered to bargain for the services I offer than begging for mercy to be engaged for casual labor.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectrly has given the poor an opportunity to chose of the best life to live though the unconditional cash transfers. The freedom to invest in the best way has made us gather authority to control our destinies. However, I have never observed anything worth improving on.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the transfer on leasing a sugarcane farm that is already grown that will be ready for harvesting in August this year. I hope to make some profit out of this and use the money to built a better house, pay school fees, buy clothes and use the remaining part on expanding the farming business.

What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when working in my Shamba. I like doing vegetable farming.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I am facing currently is lack stable source of income. My husband is a casual worker who depends on odd jobs. At times we have to miss or minimize the amount of food we eat so that we can cater for other needs like clothing. This happens when he misses to get a job in a day.
