How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I had the intentions of setting up a poultry farming business so that he could eventually help me financially in the long run. I was also looking into opening up my own salon and barber shop because I wanted a business as well on the side.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I am honestly very excited to report that my business picked up very well, and right now I am quite busy unlike prior where I hadn't got introduced to the organization I had no job, so I was a stay-home mom who could barely chip in when it cames bills and the needs of my family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The last transfers that I received I went ahead and set up the project that I was wanting to get involved in, so I built a shed and made sure I had chicken feed and then bought ten hens which cost me KES 30,000. Afterwards I decided to open up the barber shop and saloon business would cost me about KES 25,000.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was in the evening and I was just relaxing at home when I received the SMS confirming that I have received the money from GiveDirectly. I was so happy when I got the money because I was able to fulfill my desire to get medication for my child that had been sick for quite some time and it used to make me so sad and unhappy.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving money from GiveDirectly is that I now have so much peace in my heart and mind because I was able to get the medication for my child. I am now living a much stress free life, and no longer afraid of suffering from high blood pressure as a result of too much thinking due to my child's health condition.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of the transfer which was KES 35000 for my child's medical attention, because that was my biggest aim and desire. I just wanted to at least try and make sure I do something about my child health condition so that it improves and gets better because it is, I believe, every mother's dream and desire to see their children grow up in good health and strength. Therefore, I am now so happy that his condition is showing signs of improvement which is giving me so much hope and no longer as afraid suffering from high blood pressure as a result of my child's health condition. All thanks to GiveDirectly.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a boost to my income. I plan to achieve this through poultry farming. I will spend KES 30000 to buy ingenious chicks and build a shelter for them. As the chickens multiply, I will sell them at a profit and use the proceeds for household expenses. The rest of the transfers will go on my daughter's medical expenses. This is because she was diagnosed with autism 2 years ago.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Last month I went to the hospital for my daughter's therapy, and the physiotherapist told me that my daughter's condition is now improving. This brought joy and happiness to my life because I now have hopes that one day my daughter will be healed.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge that I am currently facing is raising my daughter. She was diagnosed as autistic 2 years ago. Since then my life has been very tough because her treatment is very expensive. I spend almost KES 40000 monthly on her medication. I took her for therapy twice a week and she is also on special diet. This has really weighed me down financially.
