Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 10am. When I heard a ringtone message from my phone. I called my child to checked it for me. I felt so happy when she informed me that it was message confirming that I have received KES 55,000 from GiveDirectly. I stopped whatever I was doing to celebrate. I immediately inform my family members and they were so happy too. I knew I would be able to buy building materials and build a better and spacious kitchen house. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased a piece of land. Before I used to own a small piece of land. During the harvest time I could get small harvest and it could not last us until the next season. We were subjected to buying food which is also expensive. I depend on small scale farming and causal jobs and because of the recurring daily basis needs I was not in a position to save some money. I had always wished to own a piece of land but it was not possible. When I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I found it worth to invest on buying a Piece of land. Currently I have fenced it well and ready to start the horticulture farming. I will get some good harvest and cut the cost that I have being incurring. I am so happy and I no longer stress up on where to get the money for food. I will save some money to pay school fees for my children in various schools. I spent KES 12,000 to buy a piece of land. I have fenced it now and ready to start horticulture farming. I will get enough food for the family and cut the cost of buying it. I spent some money go build a better kitchen house. They one I had was old not good. I paid school fees for my children in various schools and they are no longer being sent home like before. Their performance has improved compared to previous terms. The rest of the money I bought bought food and clothes for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that we shall be leading a better lifestyle as a family. This is because I will use KES 18000 on purchasing a water tank for storing rainwater. The relatively few and shallow dams that we usually rely on have been drying up. Secondly, I will buy a dairy cow using approximately KES 40000 to provide us with milk, primarily for sale to earn some income. Currently, we do not have a cow. Further, I will spend the remaining amount on improving my kitchen since it has a leaking roof.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I am spending some time with my niece and nephew. This is the moment when they are handling their homework after returning from school. I enjoy helping them to accomplish their tasks since education is key to a bright future.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship we have faced in life is the scarcity of freshwater for household use. The nearest water dam is situated about 3 kilometers from home. Unfortunately, the dam dries up more often due to the huge demand for the resource in our locality. Also, the dam water tends to be salty and discolored.
