How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am very grateful that GiveDirectly sent me the cash transfers. I purchased a plot of land and even constructed a two roomed house. Previously, I was a squater on this plot and life was unpredictable and yet I have a big family that needs my support. These cash transfers have improved my standards if living. My children eat good food and dress decently.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well to send cash transfers to the poor without segregation. They enrolled every one in the community. They have not committed anything wrong so far.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second transfer to pay part payment of the plot of land. Then I bought one cow with the remaining cash transfer.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I have been able to purchase two cows which is a big difference in my life. My mind is settled now because it is easy for me to do things as a man for example treat my family members, facilitate agricultural activities and above all start up a construction of a decent iron roofed house. I wouldn't have managed to do any of these if it was not for the GiveDirectly transfers.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt happy, I became so excited to the extent of failing to sleep. I stayed a wake till morning and on that day there was a celebration
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I bought two cows with my first transfer. I completed payment of the piece of land that I am currently staying in. The balance of the money, I spent on purchase of bricks that I intend to use for constructing a house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Where I am currently staying is my father's land of which it has restrictions on the activities to be done on it. So, when I receive this money, I will buy my own land where I will build a bigger house and freely do any activity on it without any restrictions. Just incase there is any balance, I will buy a cow that I will get milk out of it for sale and domestic consumption.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon after the lunch meal. This is because it is at this time that I get one of the big meals of the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of money to sustain my family properly. In this, there is no money to pay school fees for the children, attain proper medical care, buy food and other necessities.
