What does receiving this money mean to you?
If I am bless to receive transfer from Givedirectly, I want to build my own house so that me and my family can be happy. Where I live presently belongs to my mother in law. Even though we are not paying rent, but it had been my long term dream to build a house for my family. This is why I went to Gbarpolu County in 2016 to dig diamond which had fast money at that time, but I couldn't because the work was very hard and that I almost lost my life in the process. Then by 2018, I moved to Bowein Town to dig diamond again and met my wife, Famata Dorkuly and we started having children. Since then, my mother in law, Satta Adama who has been hosting us in her house. The diamond work didn't provide me the money I need to build house for my family, so, I started making farm and burning char coal. But the money generated from the farm and the coal burning is not enough to buy food for the family and at the same time help me build my own house. Therefore, any help that Givedirectly can render me to improve me and my family lives will make me feel happy.
What is the happiest part of your day?
What makes me happy in the past six months is when I burn char-coal in April and May of this year and got 41 and 40 bags that was sold for $400.00 LRD. During that period, we wanted money to pay people to work on our farm but I had no where to get it from. So, when the first coal burn in April and was sold, I was able to pay people to brush our cassava farm, while the one in May was used to buy food for the farm workers and the family. This brought relief to me and my family. Any assistance that Givedirectly will give me that can improve me and my family lives will be highly appreciated.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship facing me and my family now is money to buy food to sustain us. Even though I am making farm and burning char coal, but the money generated from the farm and the coal burning is not enough to buy food for the family and at the same time help me build my own house. The small cassava farm I can make every year takes almost the entire year before we can harvest it. Within that time, I result to burning char coal that which also take two months to burn as well. During those period food business gets very very hard on us sometimes leading me to get heavily indebted. By the time the coal is burnt and sold, the money go towards paying all of my debts thereby leaving me with absolutely nothing to buy food for the family. Therefore, any help that Givedirectly can render me to improve me and my family lives will make me feel happy.
