How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My husband who is the sole breadwinner, was involved in an accident and suffered multiple fractures and for sure I was helpless, the medical bill had accumulated to a huge amount, I nearly sold some of my home assets to raise money for my husband to be treated. I thank GiveDirectly for their coming renewed the hope in me again because after receiving my first and second transfer, I paid the medical bill and my husband has now recovered. Had it not been the financial support, I would have struggled alot to raise the required amount to cover the medical expenses.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly's approach towards alleviating poverty in our region was a perfect one, targeting a household and giving the transfers to plan for ourselves on how best we could impact our own lives positively. I think this is what GiveDirectly has really done well. Our lives have now been uplifted, since we were able to acquire some things that seemed impossible for us. I Donot see anything that GiveDirectly doesn't do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent a larger portion of my second transfer to clear medical bills and surgery for my husband who had an accident. I could not raise the whole amount of the medical expenses on my own, I am happy that GiveDirectly has helped me out financially. My husband has now recovered and fit to work. I also took a portion of the money to pay for my children's school fees for them to continue with their studies without interruptions concerning school. I spent the remaining amount to cater for the daily foodstuffs for my family and in paying for some other household expenses.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Owning any livestock to me was just a dream that I had thought previously would never come true. It takes a great deal to own what I had acquired through the GiveDirectly money. For previously I had none, but now I own them. This to me is the greatest achievements that have brought the biggest difference in my daily life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I never thought of receiving such an amount in my life. However, the coming of GiveDirectly has opened my eyes to see beyond how I will improve my livelihood. The money has enabled to me acquire things that I was incapable of getting. I was thankful and happy upon getting the financial support.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
Many times I have tried my level best to improve on my farming and I always failed since I lacked the means to ensure early cultivation and timely planting, hence just getting only a handful of the harvests. This prompted me to buy my own pair of oxen once the transfer was sent to me and I know that with this pair, I will get enough yields and hiring as well to my fellow farmers at a fee which means an income to me. I also purchased some two goats for which I am assured of them reproducing in the future and through them, I want to educate my children who are still young and preparing adequately early financially for their high school. My husband was hospitalised after he was involved in an accident and a small portion of the transfer to clear his medical bills. I spent the remaining amount on buying food for the family since my husband who was by the breadwinner of my family is not working and I had to take the responsibility of providing for the family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to start a shop business within our village thus enabling me to become self reliant and independent. For a long time, I have been a house wife depending solely on my husband to provide for our family's needs. However, this dependency really cost me a lot ever since he got into an accident earlier this month. The immense challenges that my family has gone through amongst them seeing my children sleeping hungry has made me purpose to have a business of my own. I will also buy two oxen and an ox plough that will help me to improve my farming so that I get better yields for both commercial and subsistence use.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I wake up energetic and in good health.I normally engage in my daily chores of preparing breakfast for my children before I head for casual jobs of tilling other farms to get income to sustain my family. By evening, I am usually very tired having worked in the farm the whole day. Thus morning hours are my happiest moments after having rested and feeling refreshed overnight.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship is financial constraint. My husband who has been the family's bread winner recently got an accident that rendered him incapable of engaging in any income generating activity. Due to this set back, I have been forced to engage in casual labor that does not earn much.Affording to get money to pay for his medical bills and providing food for my children has become so difficult that at times they are forced to sleep hungry.
