How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My house was grass thatched, each year i had to be maintaining it by buying grass each year. The case is now different ,since I have bought Iron sheets and i have already placed them on the roof.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly has done so well in helping us. Of course other NGOs have been us, but Give directly has helped with a huge lump-sum of money and unconditional.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I already had a house, Only that it was not fully finished. I have bought iron sheets and cement for maintanance ( plastering the walls and applying it to the floor). I have also bought chairs for my house.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Truth be told, this was a special moment for me in my life. I never knew that I would be receiving such an amount of money. It was an exciting moment and the feeling was out of this world.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I will be putting up in a modern house with iron sheets. I will no longer be sleeping in a house thatched with grass. This is the greatest difference this transfer will make in my daily life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Well, I have not yet spent the cash. I will be going to town soon after we finish this interview where I would like to buy iron sheets, mattresses, beddings and other things. Tomorrow I will also buy some few bags of maize for consumption because I did not harvest enough food.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am very happy to be enrolled into the program. As you can see my house has a thatched roof. I suffered a lot during the rainy season because my roof was leaking. Receiving this money means an end to sleeping in a house with a leaking roof because I will use the money to buy iron sheets.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am very happy when I have done some piece work and I receive some money. I will also be very happy on the day that I will receive money from GiveDirectly because it will mean that everything that I have planned will be fulfilled.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The main hardship that I face is lack of clean water. I have to walk a long distance down to the river in order to fetch water.
