How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Now i have managed to complete my child's house and also managed to start building a second house. I am very happy because i know that i am securing a place to live for my children and grandchildren.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion there is nothing that GiveDirectly did not do well because as per their explainations everything went in the same manner. I have recieved both my transfer and i am very satisfied.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I do not have a house of my own, the house that i currently live in belongs to my daughter who is at work in South Africa. The house she built is not finished, it is not plastered and it does not have windows. When i recieved my transfer, i saw it fit to complete this house and also build another house so that as a family we have two houses. I am doing this because i want to leave behind houses for my grandchildren as i am old. I do not want them to struggle in the future.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always been a sad person over the past ten years. This is so as most of the women I have grown up together with are in better houses than mine. Although, they are there partly because of their husbands, I still admire them. This was made worse when I was diagnosed with HIV too as that meant needing good diet than normal. I have also been worried whether I will leave something for my children when I die quickly before my children come of age. This money has given me renewed hope as now I am very much aware that I am going to have a better house in the next coming months. Although it will not be like what my friends have, it will still be better than this. The other money will go towards buying the much needed household items which are essential for every house such as good cups, pots, plates and others. I also know with the money that I am going to start a small business to be generating some income for me to take care of myself to meet dietary requirements for an HIV person and my children too.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In my days, the happiest part is when I see my children having a meal for that day. This gives me joy as I know they are going to grow up without being malnourished and HIV free since I made sure to take medicine properly when I was pregnant.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Staying in a village like this and having HIV is not a good situation. This is so as someone like me needs a balanced diet in terms of food and a better peace of mind. My poverty prevents me from having enough food hence further leaving me to be worrying about where the next meal will come from. Still more, I do my best to make sure the little I find feeds my children and myself. Hence, the biggest hardship is my poverty as this affects everything.
