How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that, I am having an operating salon that generates daily income for supporting my family. Before receiving this transfer, I had no stable source of income, I was making bricks but its income was seasonal that made it hard for to provide for family. In addition, I was in position to pay dowary to my in law that has given me an opportunity to stay with my wife, unlike before when my parents in laws returned their daughter because I had failed to get the needed dowary.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well to give me cash that I spent for starting a salon for men. GiveDirectly only did well to me.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to purchase livestock and starting a salon for men.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that, I have been in position to settle all the debts that I had. Paying off these debts enabled me to get back my two pieces of land from money lenders which has given me a peace of mind. Secondly, I have started a saloon business that generates daily income for running my family. Before receiving this transfer, I had a plan to start up a saloon business but I didn't have enough money.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer, I became very happy because I had got the money for settling my debts.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to start up a business of saloon worth UGX 600,000 and to paid off a debt at UGX 570,000. Furthermore, I bought clothes, food items and renovating my grass thatched huts. I have not yet spent UGX 137,000 but I am planning to spend it later on any need that arises.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
This is unbelievable opportunity to receive Givedirectly transfers because my family has been waiting. Therefore once I get this money, building iron-roofed house is my priority . I have suffered sleeping under a leaking roof for a long period of time. Also I have been spending alot of money looking for thatching grass in long distances. Iam therefore un able to save any money for sustaining my needs because of costs involved in maintaing grass thatched roof.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I normally take time relaxing and watching video films at Olilim trading centre in the evening. This makes my day end well since, I easily forget other disturbing issues.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is lack of money for buying oxen and ox-plough. My mother moved for another marriage after the death of my father. She left me struggling with life, so from child hood I survive on farming. This requires an input like oxen and ox-plough yet I do not have money hence cultivation has always been a problem.
