How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has changed in many ways in the positive direction. After buying a water tank and connecting water into our compound travelling for long distances in search of this very essential commodity has been a thing of the past. I have now devoted the time that I would have otherwise used in search for water to do other reasonable things like farming that in the long run has seen me raise an extra income to support my family. My level of cleanliness has equally risen as I now have plenty of water to do any form of cleaning in my compound. This difference has been brought about by the GiveDirectly transfers that I received.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is not biased at all. The way GiveDirectly officers conducted themselves was so transparent. They treated all the households in my village and gave everyone of them an equal opportunity of being selected to benefit from the program. The amount of money we received from them was equally enough to do a reasonable project and change our standards of living. Personally, I did not see anything that I did not like about GiveDirectly and their operations.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used KES 15000 of my second transfer to buy a water tank. I used KES 20000 to do water connection to my homestead while the remaining amount was used to build a kitchen and buy household needs such as food and clothing for my children. I resorted to buying a water tank since I had suffered a lot going for long distances in search of water and which was hard to find during the dry seasons as the springs could dry up. We were as well lucky to have water pipes from the national government passing near our compound and when I got this money, I decided to connect it to my compound. We now have water connected to our compound and a water tank for storage just in case there is any shortage from the supply point

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Living in an incomplete house is not secure. We had to sleep in worry because we had to use a broken door to protect ourselves and the windows also were not complete. Our ambition of completing the house came into reality after financial assistance from GiveDirectly. We managed to purchase materials to complete our house now we can sleep peacefully not fearing wild animals may attack us. This the biggest difference in my daily life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
At around 800am while I was taking breakfast, I heard a notification message from my phone. Upon checking it I saw a message from MPESA notifying me that I have received 55000KES and then the second message was from GiveDirectly notifying me that they have sent money. I was very happy because I had never received such an amount of money in my life that is not refundable. I really thank GiveDirectly. God bless GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my transfer to purchase building materials to complete my house. I had built this house some time back but I was forced to stop it due to lack of money. This is because my main source of income was farming maize but these maize plants started doing poorly because of certain diseases that affected them thus leading me to harvest nothing. I used to sell them in order to buy building materials but now I could not afford. secondly, I used part of the transfers to purchase a cow. previously, I used to buy milk from my neighbors. This was very expensive for me because I did not have a stable income.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always wanted to build a bigger house to accomodate my fast growing family, these transfers is going to make this possible. On the other hand I would like to spend the other amount on poultry farming this would enable me get earnings from it inorder to sustain my family's basic needs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. It is in the morning that I have just woken up and not much has crossed my mind, I am usually optimistic at this time of the day that at the end of it I will bring enough on the table for my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My husband's lack of stable source of income is the biggest hardship I have faced in my life.We got married 2 years ago when we had nothing to sustain our family we had to start from scratch,it got worst when I got my first and second born where we could hardly manage to get food and other basic needs,It got to a point when I could not bear it anymore and wanted to separate from him but then I decided to hang on and from there he resorted to being a casual labourer from here is where we get basic needs, though little life is much better now.
