How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I live in a very small apartment with my family. The 2 bedroom house has become less spacious to accommodate everyone of us. In doing so, I decided to build a bigger house. When I received my previous transfer from GiveDirectly, I started my building project. Likewise, I will use my recent transfer to complete my house and move in with my family. I feel so relieved at the moment. GD has given me hope for the future.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I truly admire the various steps taken by GiveDirectly in selecting qualified household to benefit from this program. The transfers received from GD has positively affected my life. I remained grateful to GiveDirectly for this golden opportunity.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I live in a very small apartment with my family. The 2 bedroom house has become less spacious to accommodate everyone of us. However, due to low income, I could not complete my house project in time. Therefore, when I received my recent transfer from GiveDirectly, I bought building materials such as zinc, nails, gasoline etc..These materials will be used to complete my house project. I feel so pleased at the moment. GD has given me a reason to smile again.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was under my kitchen cooking when the mobile money message came to my phone. I usually put my phone right over there in the thatch to connect to the network. That day while cooking, I heard the alert sound and decided to go see who has sent me a message. To my surprise, it was a mobile money message from GiveDirectly that I have received forty thousand three hundred seventy five dollars. When I saw the amount been sent, I shouted with joy and everyone began to asked what happened? Joyfully sing and dancing, I started telling them that my payment from GiveDirectly has been sent to my phone. I have not seen before the amount that was sent to me. I pray that God blessings go with GiveDirectly everywhere it goes.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Through the transfer, I was able to buy zinc and hired people to farm for me this year. At least for the first time I have money kept for emergency purposes which I have not been able to do due to the limited amount my husband gave me. At times when emergency cases arise especially when one of the children is sick, I often have to borrow money to take that child to the hospital but now I no longer borrow money from people because I have some of my transfer kept to attend to emergency just in case it arises. I thank GiveDirectly for this opportunity. Since I received my transfer I feel relieved in my body. I no longer worry like before and I can see that my body is recovering.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The farming season has already begun for us here, I therefore used portion of my money to hire some people to cultivate my farm. I also bought zinc with portion and the balance was kept for emergency purposes. This payment has really helped me especially during this farming season. My husband did not have to join kuu this year instead I used some of the money to hire people to farm for us and that made my husband to rest from too much hard work this year. In addition, my roof this year will be replaced with zinc. I am so grateful that I was selected to be part of this program to have received this amount. I am going to make a maximum use of it.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have lived in this village for more then one decade and life has always been challenging for me. Hardship is a way of life in this village, I have made lots plans but due to poor financial condition none of then has been realized. When I'm enrolled in GiveDirectly program, I will used this money to start my business and send my daughter to school. My business will help me to always have cash that I can used in case of emergency and when my daughter is educated she will be able to take care of me when I grow old.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Despite all of the difficulties I'm going through just seeing my one year old daughter walking every morning brings great joy to me.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
As a resident of this village I fully understand the way of life here. The only means of survival is farming and this year I was unable to make farm due to the absence my husband, whose mother passed away in June of this year. I'm unable to undertake the family responsibilities as a mother with two children in. The issue of food is a serious challenge that I'm faced with and additionally my children aren't in school this academic year because I don't have money to pay their school fees.
