Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was working on someone's motorbike when I saw people shouting Givedirectly's name all over the ccommunity. I left the bike to check my account and it was true that Givedirectly had sent us money. Upon receiving my money, I felt very fine. I was thankful to God that my plans were about to be accomplished through the help of Givedirectly. I am so grateful to GD for this big help they have given me.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Before this program, things were difficult for me because there was no job to do due to my condition. I can not do farm work because I had accident and broke my right leg; but because of Givedirectly, I am now a boss of my own. I have money to pay people to do work for me. I do not have to depend on people everyday to eat or do other things, "my money is now speaking for me". This is the change Givedirectly has brought to my daily life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought one bundle of zinc to build my house. I paid my debt I had for people and also bought one mattress and other furniture for my room. I bought few clothes and shoes for myself as well.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this cash transfer means that my dream of owning a decent house will finally come true. I built a one bedroom thatch house four years ago because I could not afford to build a decent house. The house is presently in a deplorable condition which causes the roof to leak every time it rains. When rain falls, all of my belongings becomes very wet and I have to sleep in the cold. I plan to use this cash transfer to construct a decent house for myself. I will use the rest to buy spare parts for my mechanic shop so that I will be able to earn more to support myself.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I have had more customers coming to my mechanic shop in the last six months for repairs and it has brought me so much joy and happiness. For the past one year, more customers were not coming to do repairs at my mechanic shop which caused my income to decrease. Due to my low income, I could not afford to meet my basic needs. Recently, more customers started coming to the shop which caused my income to increase. I feel very happy because I am able to provide food for myself.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My house is in a deplorable condition and that is the greatest challenge that I am currently facing. Where I sleep is a one bedroom thatch house which I built about three years ago. Every time it rains, I become homeless because for the past two years the thatch has not been able to hold the water every time it rains. I feel very bad about this situation but I do not presently have the funds to build a decent and spacious house for myself.
