How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I do not have any new goals. I used the cash transfer to have things that I needed such as buying fertilizer for my farm and building a house.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, Givedirectly does well by giving recipient the cash transfers directly. The unconditional cash transfers have made it possible for me to buy fertilizer for my farm and build a house. This has helped my family to have sufficient food and a comfortable place to live in.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have a two and half acres of land which I farm on every year. I spent part of the cash transfer to buy four bags of fertilizer to increase the farm yield productivity. I managed to harvest 35 bags of maize which is more than what I harvested in the past years. I spent the other part of the transfer to build a house for my family. Before recieving the transfers I had mold bricks that I wanted to use to build a house. With the cash transfer I was able to build the house walls, buy more ironsheets and frame the roof.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means everything to me. I will use it to buy farm Inputs such as fertilizer and pay my workers. My land is as big as 2 acres. I will also use it to buy lime and fix my house and buy enough pots for my house. I could not buy all these things because when I cultivate I sell less which is not enough to carter for all the things I need. I also depend on a maize mill. For instance I get at least 25000 kwacha a day of which is still not enough. I have had this maize mill for 2 years now.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The last 6 months, the thing that brought me joy was when I went to Zomba with my mother in law for chiftainship ceremony. This brought joy to me because there was a change of environment for me and I had time to chat with family and friends.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge that am currently facing is being sick all the time. My heart hurts all the time and when I go to the hospital they say I have sores in my lungs. This is a challenge because I am unable to go to the field (maize field) because I cannot work while sick.I have been sick for 2 years now.
