What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I plan on improving the roof of my house so with my most recent transfer, I managed to procure some building materials such as iron sheets..I bought about 20 iron sheets at total cost of $100 since the house is a bit big. Thereafter, I bought agricultural materials such as fertiliser..I bought 2 bags of fertiliser at approximately $137 which will be used to boost the fertility of soil in my maize garden. Lastly, I bought maize since I did not have enough food to cater for the whole household...So I only bought 4 bags at a price $80 and used the remaining part of the money as transport.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference is that I now have iron sheets and I will be able to complete my house which has been idle for a long time..With the new house, all my family members will finally be staying in a one place and will live comfortably.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received my money, I was so happy and excited as I was just sitting at home while chatting with wife Agness..The money brought joy and happiness in our family.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I usually struggle with lack of food in my house. This is because I am sickly, I have asthma so with the hardwork that's needed in the village I fail to go source money and as a result my family struggles. I do get the subsidy fertilizer but it's not enough, we only harvest 3 bags instead of the 10 we usually get. I also have a son who is in standard 8 and needs fees which I don't often have. I end up going to Salima to do bicycle taxi to make money and send home for him.
What is the happiest part of your day?
There was a time in June I went to Lilongwe for business selling my woven baskets. There was good market and I managed to sell all and I came back with money for my son's fees and the food we're eating now.
What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
When I receive the transfer, I will invest it in my business so that it grows and we sustain it. From the profits then we can manage to take care of our household needs and school fees. We don't want to lose or just use up the money so we will invest it wisely.
