How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Yes, the new goal that I have at the moment is to boost the goat rearing that I started with the transfers by purchasing more goats. This would be something that I will be relying upon in the future when I face any financial needs. Also, the plan is to sell them when they multiply to purchase a dairy cow that would ensure a steady supply of milk for the family. Similarly, I would sell them to the neighbors to earn an income daily that would support some of the essential needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in enrolling every individual without discrimination based on tribal or religion. Additionally, not involving or being influenced by any political and government officials is what they did well. This in the long run reduced bias during enrollment. I do not think there is anything that the organization did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
For many years, I have desired to own proper bedding for myself and the children. We were spending nights on the floor with rags something that was making us feeling body pain every morning. The only time that we could sleep on good and modern beds is when we visit our neighbors. After being enrolled in the program, I was positive that I would accomplish my dreams. I spent $150 of the most recent transfers to purchase proper modern bedding for the 2 children and myself. At the moment, we are grateful that we enjoy our nights on decent beds like others. In addition, I used $50 to clear the term two fee arrears for my son who had joined primary school. Similarly, I used $50 to purchase new clothes for every member of the family. This is because we were wearing old and torn clothes which were embarrassing resulting in low self-esteem while in front of others. Furthermore, I bought enough food for the family of 5 members with the remaining amount since we did not have enough food.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 3pm and I was relaxing at home when I got the SMS confirming that I have received the money from GiveDirectly. I was so happy and grateful when I got the money because it was going to help me a great deal especially with building a bigger and better house, which was something that I had always desired.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving money from GiveDirectly is that I now have a bigger and better house unlike before, as well as a goat that will live on to the future and I will always depend on. I am so grateful.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of the transfer which was KES 40000 on building a bigger and better house because the one we were living in previously was so small and had no space enough for my growing family. Therefore, when I got the money I made it priority to get a bigger and better house with more space where we would all live comfortably without congestion and fighting for space with some of the household items. I also spent KES 3500 on buying a goat because I believe that is something that will come help me in the future because it will reproduce and increase in number, which I'll be able to sell one or two and address the challenges I will be facing. This makes me so happy and proud.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a reliable source of income for my household. Currently, I depend on my husband who is a palm wine tapper, and his earnings are as low as KES 500 per month. This income can not fully support all our family expenses. I am planning to spend KES 50000 to start a kiosk that will act as a source of income to my family and I will be assured of getting KES per day. I will further Spend KES 55000 to construct a separate house for my household. This is because I am currently sharing a structure with my co-wife, and this does not give me the privacy that I need.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My husband secured a job as a palm wine tapper in early June. For the last few months, he has been sending me money for household expenses. This makes me happy because at least I have someone to depend on.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Food insecurity is the biggest challenge that I am currently facing. This is because I am a housewife and my husband is a palm wine tapper, his earning is very minimal of KES 5000 per and can not fully sustain all our household basic needs. Due to this, I have been struggling to put food on my t, able and sometimes, I seek help from my relatives something that ashames me.
