How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it was before Give Directly came into my life. As a widow, I have been relieved from overworking myself just to see my children get everything that they need. Before I was enrolled in the program, I had to depend on casual jobs mostly preparing people's farms. The money ended up on food. The moment of change came when I got the third transfer and bought a dairy cow. I have been able to sell milk by the roadside and get money. Nowadays I do not overwork myself with casual jobs. I find time to sell milk, go for a few casual jobs and even get time to rest and bond with my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has made me own what I did not have and maybe could not have managed to buy by this time. I am glad that everyone's living standards really changed since this organization came to our lives. Most people were able to buy whatever they wanted. It was really good of them to allow us to use the money the way we wanted. We have no excuse for not achieving our goals since we had finacial support.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my transfer to purchase a dairy cow. I love milk and this is what we treasure in our community. The pride of having a cow is real. Before buying the cow, I had to buy milk. Whenever I did not have money I had no option but to make coffee. I am glad that I get milk from my own cow. Apart from that, I also bought three bags of maize. It was a dry season where we had to buy food at a higher price because most of the grains had become toxic due to weevils and diseases while still on the farms. We have never slept hungry after purchasing three bags of maize. The three bags have taken us for a while, I hope it will be enough until the next harvesting season.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The greatest difference in my life is that now I have a cow in my compound.I have been leasing part of my field to people to graze their animals. Now I am happy to keep my own and can not continue to buy milk from others but milk my own cow.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I got the message on my phone with a confirmation that I had received KES 55000 to my phone, I felt so happy as I had never received such amount in my life.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
My first payment which I got from Give Directly I spent to buy a cow, seats, table and a bed. I also spent some amount to buy a mattress and the rest to buy food. Am so happy to have all these items which I bought with GD money as I have been yearning to have it but lack money to spent on them. Nowadays I can sleep soundly on a mattress as I had slept on a hide for too long.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I lost my husband when my children were young, this was so painful to me because he was our breadwinner. I was left struggling to provide basic needs for my family. That is my biggest hardship.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I woke up, that is when I can thank God for the beatiful day ahead.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
I will be more than glad to receive this money because it will really boost my life. I will use it to buy my livestock and improve my farming activities.
