Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Happiness was all over us the moment we received the transfer from GiveDirectly. Celebration picked when my children got the news having known that we will finally purchase a cow which will in turn stop the routine of buying milk fro the neighborhood. Every other member of the village was so happy since we all received at the same time. It really was a blessing to our village and everyone was set to spend according to their household plans.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Having done all I was wishing to do with the money,I have been really happy that this transfer came at the right time. All the projects came out as we had expected bringing great difference in our household. The biggest difference in my daily life is the school fees payment for my son who had been at home for several months after lacking school fees. It was a great worry to us after several years of struggling to see him in school. We had lost hope thinking that there was no other way to raise money since we ad no assets to sell. We are grateful that GiveDirectly came in at the right time and now everyone is happy that things are finally moving on well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving the transfer from GiveDirectly, I spent part of it on buying a large water tank worth 14000 KES. This decision was due to the fact that fetching water fro the river had been so tedious since the water sources are so far fro our home. I also spent part of the remaining on paying school fees for my college son who had stayed home for quite a long time. With the remaining amount we decided to save in order to purchase a cow since that was part of our priorities.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means no more using contaminated water from the open water pans which we normally share with livestock since i plan to buy two 5000 litre water tanks for harvesting clean water during rainy seasons. I will then use the remaining part of my transfer to buy a dairy cow for milking hence no more buying milk for family consumption as well as an additional income to me now that i will be selling some milk to earn some income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Since i spend most part of my day cultivating crops in my farm, morning is time i am most happy after waking up feeling energetic enough to carry on with my planned activities for the day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Prolonged droughts in this region has made farming unreliable now that however hard we cultivate our lands, apply manure and plant hybrid Seeds, we end up harvesting barely enough for family consumption and none for sale due to land unproductivity. This has been the biggest hardship we face
