I do not have any new goals now. I wish to focus on horticulture farming on the land that I purchased using the transfer. This will enable me get enough food to feed my family and cut the daily cost that I always spent on food.

GiveDirectly does well in that it has enabled most of the people in the village to start dairy-keeping projects. This has made them cut the daily cost of buying milk which was so costly. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.

I lived on a small piece of land and I was not able to do farming, I have always wished to own a bigger farm but I did not have the money to purchase it. I spent $250 on purchasing a piece of land. The land cost $300 so I top up $50 out of my saving. I am so grateful because currently, I do small horticulture farming. This has enabled me to get some food for my family and cut the daily cost of buying. GiveDirectly has enabled me to fulfill this dream. I am an artist and the money that I get through this currently is so small and it was only for basic household needs. I was not able to save some money to buy land. I spent $160 on purchasing food and clothes for my children since we did not have enough in the store at that time. My children were so happy and grateful as well. The remaining amount of money I saved for any emergencies and for other household items that we were missing. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly changed my living standard and enabled me to fulfill my dream of owning land.

I was on a motorcycle and I was heading to the nearest town when I heard my phone ringing in my pocket. I didn't bother to check it because I thought it was an SMS from my network service provider. It is when I alighted in town that I decided to check my phone. I could not believe my eyes when I saw that it was an SMS saying that I had received the KES 55000 that GiveDirectly had promised us. I was so happy that I immediately called my wife to inform her of the good news. She was so thrilled too and we thanked God for everything.

The transfer has brought a very big difference in my life and that of my family. We no longer struggle a lot to get money and hence our minds have relaxed a little bit. We were able to clear school fees for our two children and hence I have started saving some of the money that I make from the business through an account that I recently opened in a SACCO.

I spent most of the transfer on buying a bigger generator which costed me KES 25000. I have a public address system and I am usually called in several SACCO meetings that are very common in our area to provide the service. I have been having a small generator that has been assisting me in this business. However, I have experienced several challenges with it because it sometimes breaks down, and getting spare parts to repair it is quite a challenge since they are not easily available. When this happens, I usually miss getting hired for my services, they thus usually decide to hire another person. Although I had always wanted to buy another generator, I was not in a position to due to lack of money. I usually get a total of approximately KES 5000 per week from the business and most of the money usually goes to the purchase of food and payment of school fees for my two children. I have hence not been able to save anything. The new generator is doing well and hence it has been of great benefit to me since I no longer miss out on jobs. Thank you very much GiveDirectly.
