Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I woke up in the morning and heard people saying that theyhad received money from GiveDirectly. On checking my phone, I had not received any myself. I tried checking severally just to confirm that I had not received the money and when I was just about to call and raise a complaint, then I received my share. I felt so happy. The first thing that I deed upon receiving was to let my wife know and we embarked on planning on how best we were going to spend the money that we had just received.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The water problem that we have been having for quite sometime now was finally solved after we were able to fully purchase a water tank. The money that was injected into our business has already bore fruits and we are making much more bigger profits than we made before receiving GiveDirectly transfers. This is the biggest difference in my daily life that has come about because of this transfer.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 15000 to clear a debt on a water tank that I had made a deposit on. The remaining amount was used to improve a clothes selling business that my wife runs. The water tank has allowed us to have access to clean drinking water for the first time and the hustle of having to travel for long distance in search for this precious commodity is now a thing of the past. The business that we are running has as well enabled us to make more profits daily and this has resulted in general rise in the living standards of my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always wanted to rear 20 sheep but I only have 12. I also want to build a dairy unit but I have not been able to build one due to lack of finances. Receiving this money means I will be able to accomplish my set goals.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I am reflecting on the days activities. My happiness comes as a result of accomplished goals for the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of clean water for domestic use has my biggest hardship. During dry seasons I am forced to use water pans that are shared by all community members. These pans pose a big health risk for my family since they are not fenced.
