How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that, I now have a three roomed permanent structure in my compound though I have not completely to build because the transfer was not enough but we hope to get a loan. Currently, I'm still sleeping in a leaking thatched house. Thanks to GiveDirectly because on my own I wouldn't have put up this structure.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly, has done well by helping me start to build a permanent house which I had never thought of. GiveDirectly has not done anything wrong.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on purchasing building materials( iron bars and 8 bags of cement), bought food and paid school fees for my child.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life is much better because now days I can afford to have two meals in a day compared to the past when I had only one meal. Secondly, I'm very happy because I bought building materials for my permanent which I hope to start building after I have gotten my second transfer. Currently, I'm still sleeping in a grass thatched house.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received money from GiveDirectly, I felt very happy because I was sure of sleeping in a permanent house.

I bought building material ( 3 trips of bricks, 3 trips of aggregate stones, 2 trips of sand, 3 bags of cement) worth UGX 1,445,000, transport worth UGX 60,000, bought household goods ( mattress) worth UGX 115,000 and food ( cassava flour and beans) worth UGX 80,000.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have lost a lot of money maintaining the grass thatch house since its easily destroyed by rats. This has made me unable to save money for providing other neccessities in my family. Therefore receiving this money means that I will be able to build iron-roofed house and thus cutting costs involved in maintaining grass thatched roof.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Iam normally very comfortable and happy in the morning hours. This because Iam able to do some garden work and my children go to school. I do work with all the energy knowing this is the only reliable source of income. The rest of day Iam stresed looking for what my children eat when they come back from school.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is lack of money for Educating my children. My children are studying in kakori primary school though is under govrnment , I have failled to pay development fees due to poverty. They are being chased home frequently and is so much affecting their academic performances.
