How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different from how it would have been had I not received the transfer in that if it was not for the money I would not be affording a balanced diet. Previously I would eat to fill my tummy and not get nutrients from food. I am aged, with no source of income and only relied on aid from my neighbours. I am also proud I have livestock which are also source of income. After they have given birth I will sell the milk as to raise income. With this I will be independent. For many years I have never had a food sleep because I have been sleeping on rugs since I could not afford reasonable bedding. Thanks to the Give Directly transfers, I now have comfortable bedding. If it was not for the money I could not afford these.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion Give Directly does well in giving cash to individuals without any conditions. Through the cash, most people were able to improve their lives. On the other hand, I have not seen any areas of improvement on their side.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought two cows for rearing with the second transfer. I am aged and I cannot engage in any of the economic activities so the cows are investment for the future. After they have given birth, I will earn income from the milk because I am planning to sell some of the milk. This will enable me to meet my household needs. Part of the money I saved so that I can use it to renovate my house. Part of the wall has fallen off and with the coming rains I am afraid it might fall on me. I am also happy I can finally sleep in comfortable bedding because I managed to buy both a mattress and a bed . I nolonger sleep on the ground on rags anymore.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received a notification in my phone of an incoming message. My helper checked the message as usual because I did not comprehend it well. I was filled with joy when he disclosed the good news that I had received my first transfer from GiveDirectly. I thanked them for their financial help.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The transfer has enabled me to buy livestock which I did not have before the coming of GiveDirectly. I now own two cows and three goats that I keep in my homestead. I am expecting them to reproduce and increase in number. At least I have some assets to depend on in case of a financial need. I willl also be getting milk for my family's consumption and also sell the surplus thus earning an income.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 37000 of my first transfer on buying livestock which include two cows and three goats. These are assets and a saving for me, when I am faced with a dire financial need, I can sell the offspring and sort my financial issues. Besides, I will be benefiting from the milk that these cows will be producing. I will sell and earn an income. In addition to this, I also purchased a new bed and a matress to replace the old bedding that I was using for years. I spent the remaining amount of the transfer to do a shopping on foodstuffs and new clothing for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means food security. It has been my dream to have cows. I will use 300 dollars to buy two small indeginous bulls @ 150 dollars each. The bulls will help me during farming (ox-plough) given that am aged and going by the traditional methods of farming I might not be productive enough to supplement my family with food. I'll also buy two indeginous dairy cows at a cost of 300 dollars to produce milk both for domestic use and for sell.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is during the morning. It is a time I thank God for giving me another day and for his grace in my life.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is food insecurity. Affording three meals a day is a dream and this is attributed by the unpredictable weather patterns in my area.
