How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have been stress-free since I received these transfers, paying school fees is not a challenge as it was before. this is because did not have a reliable source of income since I relied on casual jobs whose pay was less than KES 100 a day. My son also has a place to sleep unlike before since I used the transfers to build him a house. He now has a place to study really well and his performance has greatly improved. I am a very proud mother. i also have enough furniture that i bought through the tranfers, my home is the best place at the moment and i can host visitors at ease.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has really done well through empowering people to overcome the challenges they are facing everyday. I personally had challenges whose solution lied in getting financial support, I have for instance paid school fees and even got basic needs. The neighbourhood is really different in a positive way courtesy of the cash transfers.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spend KES 25000 my second transfers on paying school fees for my children in secondary and primary school. Then I used KES 12000 as expenses for my son's initiation ceremony and the rest, I spend on food and clothes.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
God is wonderful! Receiving this money means that our living standard will improve significantly. We shall use the money to buy furniture and food. Besides, my two children who are at secondary school will definitely complete their studies - they have been on and off from their studies due to lack of fees. Hence, GD has just come at the most right time.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is at the evening when sharing a meal with my family. Presence of food in our house is a sign of blessing - missing some of the daily meals has been our norm. Hence, we always capitalize on the evening meal because we find it more vital than the other meals.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship we have faced in life is inadequacy of food. The laxity of food has adverse effects - children do not concentrate in their classes, while us as parents lack energy for tackling casual labor that could generate additional income for our family. Thus, inadequacy of food makes us to live a substandard life.
