How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
For the first time, my children were able to go to school for the whole term without being sent back home. This is because I was able to pay the whole term school fee on time. Previously, I relied on casual work and subsistence farming but I never used to earn much from these activities. The little that I earned from my casual jobs was spent on food and other basic needs. The transfers I got from GiveDirectly enabled me to do all these within a very short period of time. The peace of mind and joy that I experience as a result of achieving this is the biggest difference in my life.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
Currently, I do not have any livestock but I have always wanted to own at least one dairy cow and a bull. I usually consider them as a life-changing investment. Therefore, for the next four months, I have a new goal of saving the coming transfers so that I can buy goats for rearing. Since goats give birth twice a year, I have the plans of selling them in the future after they have given birth in order to raise money to purchase a cow.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer is the peace of mind that I have currently. This is because, through the GD transfers, I was able to clear my children's school fee on time without taking a loan. I believe their performance will improve because they have never been sent back home due to lack of school fees. This is unlike the previous case when I faced a lot of challenges in raising their school fee.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
Currently, I only have two plastic chairs which are already broken. Normally, they are not comfortable to sit on because of their condition. I, therefore, expect to have saved enough money in the next six months so that I can purchase decent seats.

How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
My life is currently different from how it was because we used to live in small grass thatched house which leaked on rainy days but now as we speak, I am in a four bedroomed iron roofed house enjoying the luxury of space and privacy. The rain is no longer bother anymore.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
I currently do not have any new goal apart from improving the condition of the new house embarking on final touches.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer is that I have managed to build a bigger and a better iron roofed house. Initially, I used to live in a grass thatched house which was small to accommodate my now big family. This was uncomfortable because there was no privacy.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months, I am hoping that I will have invested in animal husbandry and will be a better farmer in matters regarding the rearing of livestock.

How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
Apart from being able to pay school fees in time, I have been able to build a bigger, better and an iron-roofed house. Before the transfer. I used to live in a smaller and grass thatched house. It was in a bad condition and I was the laughing stock of the village because of the status of my house. At night, we would be forced to take seats outside to create more sleeping space for my family. This was risky because I feared they would be stolen when we are asleep. When I started receiving these transfers, I started purchasing building materials bit by bit until I had enough to build a house of my preference. I am glad GD brought change in my life which I was not able to do myself.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My new goal in the next four next months is to buy a goat. This is an investment whose value increases on a daily basis and when it reproduces, I will be able to sell some of them to raise money to solve other family financial needs without having to beg for help or borrow money like I used to.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my life since I started receiving these transfers is that I have been able to pay school fees for my children in time. I used to really struggle to raise money to pay school fees for my children who are in secondary school. Their performance were affected because they were sent home regularly for school fees. I used to have low income from casual work and weaving which was not consistent enough. This is the reason why I could not keep up with paying school fees on time. I am very glad that I have cleared the major part of their balance and they are studying well in school. Their performances have improved which makes me very happy as a parent.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months, I plan to buy building materials such as iron sheets, nails and timber which I will use in building a house for my firstborn son. He is still in secondary school but I want to build a house for him so that his siblings can also spend in his house and avoid going to my neighbour's house at night to find a place to sleep.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my life now is that I have an assurance that I will finally a new house which I have always wanted. The one I live now is too small, has a leaking roof and can fall down anytime.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I face is providing food for my family. Last year we had low harvest, our crops failed and this has made it difficult for me to provide other necessities for my family because I spend most of my earnings on buying food.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evinning when I am done with my day's chores and I find time to sit down with my family, share a meal together as we chat.
What are you planning to spend your transfer on?
I am planning to build an iron sheet roofed house which is more spacious than the one I am currently living in. My house is grass thatch roofed and it leaks when it rains, this makes it difficult for us because my children are forced to sleep at my brother's house.
What is the achievement you are proudest of?
The achievement that I am most proud of is taking my sons to secondary school, one in form two and the other is in form three. Even though I am a low income earner, I work hard to pay their school fees. I am also proud of their good academic performance and this motivates me to work even harder.
