How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the future years, I will live a healthier life in a well-ventilated home, which will protect me from diseases associated with living in stuffy places and dust. With this, I am motivated to be more cautious about my hygiene and to live longer in this world in order to see my grandchildren grow into excellent people in society. I also want to keep poultry even though in my old age I will not be able to keep more than what I have now, but I will strive to keep the number that I have now all through and improve on their quality in terms of the number of eggs they produce and the number of chicks they hatch; also, the cocks should be of good weight for better sale.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The most amazing thing that GiveDirectly has done is provide us cash transfers; people have different needs, thus the amount given need to be considered in relation to their needs. Some of the residents of our village have built houses, others bought livestock, some have done farming in farms that could no longer be farmed, while others have gone on to start businesses. Givedirectly has opened many people's eyes to their true potential, and for that we are grateful. I wish them the best in everything they accomplish, and I hope that as they continue to bless others, they never weary of doing good.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Even in my old age, the desire to live a better life has never faded. I've always imagined myself living under a better roof than the one I currently have, a grassed thatched rocket house. What I didn't realize was that GiveDirectly would help make this a reality sooner. I stay with my two grandchildren, where we make the best of life by appreciating and being happy with what we have, but this has been made even better by seeing all of the building supplies gathered, for which I spent $14. I'm looking forward to the workers starting work tomorrow; I've budgeted $40 for both labor and roofing materials. I know I'll be enjoying my stay in my ideal home in a couple of weeks. I've also been dealing with health concerns that come with getting older, and GiveDirectly transfers have come in handy. I normally go for checkups every two months and am given medication to take until the next visit, which costs $3. Normally, I would sell eggs or chickens from my poultry farm to fund my medication, but this time was different and simpler.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. Never before had we received such support from anyone in the past. I felt happy that the things we had always had as plans were finally going to be realized.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now happier than I have ever been. There were a lot of plans that I always wanted to accomplish but which I would not accomplish because of lack of finances. Though we do not have many dependants looking up to me, getting enough money to start a project has not been so easy for us as a family. We feel lucky and happy to have been part of the beneficiaries of GiveDirectly program.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have always had the desire to build a better house for my family. When I received my recent transfer of $550, I saved almost the entire transfer in preparation to building a better house once I get my second transfer. Putting up a timber house shall allow me to easily maintain it. I feel so much happy to see this dream come to a reality soon too.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Our kitchen house is old and dilapidated. It has lasted for 30 years now. It is grass thatched and it has started to leak and let water inside the house and thus making it unconducive and uncomfortable to live in. It has also become hard to find grass for roofing and therefore there is the need to build an iron-roofed house which is expensive and that is the reason why we have never been able to build one. This help is a major boost for us, it is a big enabler for us to build our dream kitchen house. We intend to use the money for the construction of a timber-walled and iron-roofed house that is estimated to cost $900. We will use the rest of the money for medication and the purchase of foodstuffs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
We enjoy the peace that has enabled us to coexist with my husband. Life is full of challenges, and the cost of living has gone up among others. Despite all the challenges our marriage has withstood the test of time. Whether we have or lack we are at peace, at no time has my husband pointed an accusing finger at me which is a good thing. I do not take it for granted and I thank God for it.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My health has failed me for some time now. I suffer from high blood pressure and I am under medication. I normally go to be attended at Tenwek Hospital. The cost of treatment is expensive and sometimes I am unable to raise the required amount and which means I am forced to skip the medicine which subsequently affects me since without the drugs I feel sick and indisposed. High blood pressure puts one to be under drugs throughout and so to sustain the cost without a cover is a tall order.
