How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I foresee myself as a great farmer and an esteemed egg supplier in the the village and nearby towns. With all of the ensures in place, I am confident that my dream could possibly be achieved. I am convinced the egg business will yield good profits, allowing me to grow further and explore into boiler chicken as well.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I was able to accomplish what looked unachievable on my end by using GiveDirectly transfers. As a single mother with four children in school, two in form four and two in university, the thought of their school fees drove me insane. When I heard about GiveDirectly coming in to our town, it felt like God had sent them just for me. Imagine losing my husband a year ago and finding myself in the robust of all of this. With the transfers, I paid all of their school fees and none of them returned home for any debt. Also, I am a business-minded individual who is currently considering how to make money and take care of my children. It could be a different story if GiveDirectly transfers were not applied. God bless you as you continue to bless others. Treat them the same way you treated us, and they will feel the difference.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received the second transfer, I immediately purchased a wiremesh fence for $16 to enclose my compound as well as the area where my chickens would sleep while I worked on building a house for them. Initially, they would sleep in my kitchen, which became filthy and stinky, making it unpleasant to eat or cook there. Furthermore, the chickens would go about ruining other people's crops in their farms, causing me to have no peace in the vicinity. As a result, I desire to have more chicken layers for the egg business, and I have set aside money to use after I finish building their house. I spent another $15 from the transfer on food and beverages during my daughter's dowry payments. This satisfied me because the transfers were on schedule, allowing us to offer our valued visitors the greatest welcoming possible.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. Earlier in the day, I had heard people claim that they had received money from GiveDirectly but it was not until evening that I learnt that I too had received money from GiveDirectly. It was my children who saw and read out the message to me confirming that I had received some money from GiveDirectly. I broke into a celebration mood after receiving a transfer from GiveDirectly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the peace of mind especially after paying school fees. I went through a difficult period when I lost my husband a year a go. He was not just a breadwinner in my family but we had used all the resources at our disposal to seek treatment for him. My two children in secondary school were my greatest worry but I now feel so much happy to have been part of this very beneficial GiveDirectly program.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used $300 to clear school fees for my two children who were both in secondary school and used the remaining amount to advance my farming practices and to buy food for my family. The money came at a time that I was struggling to pay school fees for my children after my husband passed on a year a go leaving me with all the responsibilities of raising the family.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
This money could not have come at a better time than this, a time when I needed help and had been wondering where to get it from.We have been miserable after the passing away of my husband and we have been trying to get back on the right footing like before. Our lives turned for the worse, my children were the most affected since their studies were disrupted. I intend to use the money to pay college fees and secondary school fees for them, this will amount to $700 to clear next term's fees plus all the arrears. I am extremely happy about this transfer, I was between a rock and a hard surface but this help will greatly assist me. I am so grateful.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My daughter-in-law, Joan gave birth to a lovely daughter last month. It was so elevating and fulfilling moment, though she could not fill the void in my heart left by my husband it lessen it. I felt that God had blessed me in another way and for a moment I forgot the distress and thoughts about the loss of my husband. She brought some warmth and a new lease of life to us. She is lovely and adorable angel.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
In October, my husband passed on after a long illness of 6 years. He had battled a kidney failure disease and he had been undergoing dialysis in a Kisii hospital. The dialysis was very expensive costing $100 per week and he was undergoing it twice a month. We depleted a lot of resources to cater to his medication, 2 of my children who were in college were forced to drop out of school because of a lack of school fees. My husband suffered a lot, I watched him gradually get wasted by the disease, he underwent pain and suffering and, on his sunset days, he could not even move. We used to assist him to even eat. I am still mourning my husband, I have not gotten over it, sometimes I stare at his photo and wish I could bring him back to life. Death is so cruel!
