How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if never I received the transfer in that I have built a house and bought a dairy cow. I depend on casual jobs in the village and the small amount that I get is only enough for the basic needs. It could have taken me years to save enough to build a house.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by giving out the unconditional cash transfer to the people. This is because people have different needs and wants. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spend the second transfer to buy a dairy cow. I used to buy milk and it was so costly for me. I also bought food for the family and the rest of the money I used it to buy two goat and clothes for my children.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have built a decent and spacious house with the money that I received from GiveDirectly. We used to live in a small mud house before with my family, where this one house was the bedroom, kitchen and sitting room at the same time. I used to do casual jobs in the village and the amount of money I could get was so small and it could only gather for the basic needs and building a house was not easy. I could intentionally come home late in the night because I did not want my children to see me lying down there doing nothing and not planning to build a house for them, I feared to welcome visitors to my house because it was very embarrassing to host them outside the house because the house was so small and whenever I had some emergency meeting some of my siblings could stand outside the house to listen to the proceedings. My children were sleeping at their grandmother house and I was not happy at all. Currently, I have a spacious house and my children have their own private room to sleep and do their assignments on time. I no longer fear to welcome my church members and visitors into my house because of enough space and good seats to sit on. I come home very early after casual jobs to bond with my family because I no longer stay out late am so happy about the support because it has changed our living standard.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received my money. I remember it was very early in the morning when I was taking breakfast with my family when I checked my phone. I could not believe my eyes because I had never received such amount of money in my entire life before. My spouse and children really celebrated because they have never seen such an amount of money before. We sat down with my spouse to budget the money together and the first thing was building a house because we were living in a small mud house. Currently, I have a decent and spacious house for my family and I feel so grateful for this.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used part of my first transfer to build a better house for my family. The one that we were living in before was too small and was a little too uncomfortable for us to stay in. I also used part of the money to buy a heifer and the rest was used to buy food and other basic household needs for the family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will enable me to build a bigger house since the one we currently live in is smaller. The second part of my transfer will go to buying a calf and a dairy cow that will support my income upon selling milk.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day whenever i wake up strong and healthy ready to look for jobs to engage myself in so as to earn some income at the end of the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Unreliable source of income is the biggest hardship i currently face. I do casual jobs such as fencing, digging and weeding crops in people's farms, a job that is not reliable yet there is no other income generating activity i depend on. Providing basic needs for my small family daily has been a great challenge to me due to lack of reliable source of income.
