How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I had new goal that is to buy my own seedings to make garden to help me get funds; because for the past years I have been taking my agricultural seedings on credit to make my garden and paid back after harvest; that wish has been making living conditions very difficult for my kids and I. Initially I planned to have graduation party for my son who was graduating from 12th grade.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly do well in helping us and given us the opportunity to decide the best way we would like to spend the transfer they give us.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my most recent transfer to buy rice, corn and okra seedings for my garden and had party for my son graduation from 12th grade.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When the GIVE DIRECTLY STAFFs came here to enroll us on the program, they told us that we were going to receive money but they did not give us specific date on the time the transfer was supposed to come to us. Everyday I would check on my phone to see if my message had come, it was this particular day in which I took my phone for charging and left to go for prayers cus I am a Muslim. When I came from praying I went and took my phone from on charge, it did not take long when I heard my message ring tone, I took the phone to my sister's husband because I don't know how to read and write. When my sister's husband checked the message behold it was my transfer send by GIVE DIRECTLY. I was so overjoyed. The first thing I did was, take the phone from him went in my room and started to share tears. I was sharing tears because there was so many problems I had in my life after I lost my husband to ebola, and GIVE DIRECTLY coming in to solved these problems was some of the reasons which brought tears to my eyes.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
One of the biggest difference in my daily life now is that GIVE DIRECTLY has make me to be able to sugar my tea. I am now able to help my sister to paid my children school fees and things needed for their school. In my daily life, I am now living a peaceful life and not that worry life that I once live since I lost my husband.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the transfer on my children school fees and materials for school (book bag, books uniform etc). I also started a susu (saving club) in which I have some of the money saved.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I live in a house with two rooms. One of my rooms are leaking and because of that, my children and I can sleep in the same room. It can be too embarrassing to me. So, when I get this money, the first thing I will do is to reroof my house. I will also buy sticks and call a carpenter to fix my place. At least, when this is done, I will be satisfied. I also used to have a provision shop that I ran. When my second daughter got seriously ill, I had to use my business money til she recovered. This made me to have money to continue running my business and feed my family. Because of getting food on my table, I jumped into agriculture. On my farm, I plant vegetables and fruits to sell and sustain my family. The next thing that I will do after fixing my house is to start a business. By doing business, I can now start catering fully for my children and I.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the last six months, what has really brought me joy and is still bringing me joy is because I am alive. I see myself counted amongst the living and I have not been admitted to any hospital for any sickness. This can bring me joy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My major challenge now is getting finance to take care of my children. Since my husband died during the Ebola era, things have not been the same for my children and I. My husband used to provide fir his family and because of his death, the whole weight is now on me. I face a lot of hard time to get money from the sale the farm's produce. The money gotten from there is not even enough to solve all of my problems.
