What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Receiving this cash means that I would be able to buy 3 bags of fertilizer to apply in my maize field, thus, a warrant for bumper yields next harvesting season. I will do this because I would like to be food secure. If the funds can come even earlier it means I would be able to top up my current food stocks with 4 bags of maize for the meantime. Thereafter, I plan on buying 2 goats and have them procreate so that whenever I am faced with challenges I would be able to sell them and solve my problems even after you guys are gone. For instance, it means I would be able to pay for medical services.
What is the happiest part of your day?
For the past 6 months I really can't recall what has brought me joy but on a daily basis I am pleased whenever I am having meals with my grand daughter here. And also, I don't have specific dates but this year I have been pleased to see 2 of my daughters get married. These are the things that give my life purpose.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Currently, the challenges I am facing are low yields and poor health. For instance, this year I have only harvested 3 bags of maize from my 2 acre farm. For me to be food secure plus to sustain myself, I need about 10 bags of maize. I believe that I have low yields because I don't apply fertilizer in my field as I can't afford it. These farm produce get depleted early and in turn I am left with no food for 3 or 4 months a year, especially these lean season months. Additionally, with my age my health is also deteriorating. Nowadays I frequently visit the hospital for different ailments affecting me. The most common one is toothache. Whenever I am sick I am unproductive, thus, I can't provide for myself nor my grandchild who is my responsibility.
