How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, I have a new goal of venturing into the selling maize business so that I can have a source of income. At the moment, I am doing manual jobs and saving in merry-go rounds towards starting up the business.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, Givedirectly brought a huge transformation in our village. All the processes were fair as we had been promised by the officers. I do not have any negative views.

After an agreement with my husband, we opted to spend KES 40,000 in clearing school fees for our four children in high school for the entire term. We were grateful that they were not sent home for collection of school fees. They studied without distractions unlike before. The remaining amount of the second transfer we spent on purchasing clothes and maize for our family members.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was thankful to God after receiving the first transfer. I saw this as an opportunity to see my children compete in their studies as I had been struggling a lot to see their school fees settled. That morning, I had to visit the immediate shopping center since I needed a bank agent shop where I could deposit the money directly to the school account. With the remaining amount, I managed to purchase some household goods as we had agreed with my husband. Everyone in the household was so happy that evening when we meet for a meal, knowing that the great promise we had been given had been finally honored.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life after receiving the transfer is the peace I have knowing that my children are studying well without being disturbed at school. I had been depending on farming to settle most of the household bills and was glad to receive this money as I was able to do a lot that would have taken me quite a long time before completion.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
As a farmer, I had been fully dependent on small-scale farming producing short-season crops as a source of income. This project has been useful in settling school fees for my four sons in secondary school. With the first transfer, I decided to spend KES45000 on clearing school fees for the three sons leaving one since I will continue supplying their school with farm produce. With the remaining amount, I managed to obtain two sacks of maize each at KES 2500 and the remaining on replenishing other household goods.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a parent who mean well for my children and I will do everything within my power to get them the best in life. I feel that their way to a bright future is giving them the best education. I have 4 children at their secondary level of schooling and I am required to raise 40000 shillings for each child every single year. I depend on farming to make ends meet and the much I can raise from this venture is 15000 shillings each year. This makes it impossible to raise the required amount of school fees for my children. Receiving this money will mean so much to me as it will help me clear fee arrears amounting to 100000 shillings.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am always happy in the morning. This is so because it is at this time that I thank God for having me on his wake-up list.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Two years ago, my mother-in-law was sick for two consecutive years and I was the one taking care of her. Seeing her in pain for that amount of time is something that will stay with me for a long time. We visited several hospitals, Tenwek included, trying to save her life but it was all in vain. We spent more than ksh 200000 that we are still paying upto date.
