What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Livestock keeping is the main source of livelihood in our region. Therefore ,I plan to spend this money on buying myself 6 goats at a cost of KES 6000 each.I chose to buy goats because it doesn't require much attention from my side, the cost of taking care of them is lower and I also have several grandchildren who can take care of these goats on my behalf.Furthermore, these goats will serve as a security in terms of food and hospital bills in the future.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The presence and support of my grandchildren has brought immense joy in my life.Although I cannot walk around the village to interact with my fellow age mates ,I still feel secure and peaceful enough because of my grandchildren. They tell me stories and updates of activities going on in the community, they play around me and even do for me the house chores that I cannot afford to do at the moment.Their presence in my life has brought mind stability and a sense of belonging in my life and this boost my morale despite this challenges of life.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The quick deterioration in my health is the greatest challenge am currently facing. It was in the year 2020 when I started feeling pain in my waist and leg joints, on visiting the Marigat District hospital the doctors discovered that I had diabetes coupled with the weakening of joints due to high levels of florides in the body .The high florides level has been caused by the Lake Baringo water we have been using since our childhood.Since the onset of these joint pains I have been unable to vend for myself and my grandchildren because movement from one place to another is now a challenge to me .I stopped selling tea, porridge and Sweet potatoes around the construction sites in the village because I cannot not walk well .To make matters worst I still have to endure the pain for a lifetime because the doctors have said there is no remedy to this condition.
