How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different now because I was able to buy cattle (at first I bought oxen that will help in in terms of extensive farming and then secondly I bought a cow that will act like my personal saving and investment when it calves). Before, I had to just hire oxen to plough and at times I would farm late but now that I have my own, I will plough early leading to timely farming.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly has done well by helping me financially. On the other hand, there is nothing bad that GiveDirectly has done.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to buy a cow at Ugx 550000. I then got back my farm land at Ugx 700000. I paid up fees for my daughter, and then bought uniforms for others. I then used the balance to buy clothes for my children and cater for the family feeding.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
From the time I received this money, My life has never been the same. First and foremost my children are in school because I was able to pay their fees. Secondly, there is improved feeding in my family whereby we feed thrice starting with breakfast, Lunch and dinner as compared to previous days when we ate once the whole day. Lastly I'm so proud for having bought a bull that will hence my farming because I will not depend on old fashioned agricultural method of tilling the ground using hand hoes which consumed more time, energy and less yield.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
My heart was filled with joy and happiness the moment I received this money. I lost my sleep since I was overwhelmed with happiness. It was like a dream come true because I couldn't believe that it had happened and I thanked God almighty for the amazing wonders he keeps doing through GD.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I had previously used my land as collateral security to acquire a loan to pay school fees because my children were sent home, so when I got this money I decided to payback the loan and reclaim ownership of my land. Secondly I bought a bull for ploughing since i do not have any making farming difficult. The remaining amount of money I used it on acquiring household items like mattresses, clothes and finally feeding since my house was hit by famine. I have also saved some money to pay school fees of next term.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to buy oxen which will support in farming and use the balance to build an iron roofed house. Grass has become so scarce. Even the house that I currently sleep in leeks.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest in the morning when I wake up healthy. I know I will be able to acomplish my tasks of the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am faced with is lack of oxen. Cultivation season is very challenging to me. Usually, I cultivate late because I have to wait until I can hire oxen. This has always affected my harvest and as such, food shortage. As I speak, I don't have food in the house. I do casual labour to provide for the family.
