Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at the hospital taking care of my sick son. The hospital is located within a network area. The phone was in my hand when I received an alert. I didn't know that it was from Givedirectly, but upon checking, I saw the transfer from Givedirectly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I had the dream of building a house before meeting Givedirectly, but through Givedirectly intervention, my dream has turn to reality. I am so grateful for the assistance rander to us by Givedirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have long been yearning to build my own house. I have decided to wisely use my money purposely to undertake a construction project and also pay my children tuition as well.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Owning a decent house and educating my children is what receiving this cash transfer means to me. For the past four years, my family and I have been residing in a friend's house because our house collapsed. We have been trying to raise money to construct a new house but things are very difficult at the moment. We have pleaded with relatives and friends for assistance but no body has come to our aid. I do not feel comfortable living in a friend's house because I am unable to make certain decisions as it relates to running my family. I plan to use the cash transfer to buy a land and construct a house for my family where we will have privacy and make independent decisions. I also plan to use a portion of it to educate my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
What brought me joy and happiness in the last six months is a bundle of zinc that I received from a friend. For the past three years my family has been residing in my friend's house because we do not have the funds to build ours. Few weeks ago a friend of mine who I asked for assistance bought me a bundle of zinc for my house construction. I felt very excited because it will assist me greatly in my construction process.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The major challenge that we are currently facing is unreliable source of income. We do not have any means of earning an income. For the past three years we have been engaging ourselves in farm work to sustain our family but what we produce from the farm is not enough to feed us. My kids have been thrown out of school so many times because I am unable to pay their tuition. Most days I am unhappy because of the embarrassment we are faced with as a family.
