How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Unemployment has always been a challenge in our country. My spouse who schooled up to college had to work as a casual worker after looking for white-collar jobs and did not get an opportunity. Therefore, his income has been meager to support the family and pay school fees for the children since he is the breadwinner. Lack of money made us have sleepless nights as a result of stress. My life is currently different since I have successfully paid school fees for my three children who are in secondary school. I feel peaceful and proud because I have been able to pay their school fees up to first term next year, therefore, I am certain they will have humble time in school as I struggle to look for more to raise their subsequent terms fees.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well by donating money to the poor in my village without discrimination as its staffs were respectful and proactively candid in offering solution based on the organisations operations. This donations has made a bigger difference of upgrading the living standards to most of my community members.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the larger part of my second transfer to build decent two roomed iron sheet house. Today, I am a proud since I have seized to be a laughing stack in my village from owning a grassed thatched house while the rest of the villager has lightly better houses. I paid school fees for my children who were in secondary school. The remaining amount I bought three bags of maize for my family's consumption.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have paid the school for my two sons.

The moment I received my money I felt so happy. That night I was not feeling well and I did not hear when the message was sent. I was at the shop that morning and I heard people saying that GiveDirectly has sent money. I went back
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to pay school fees for my two children in secondary school, I bought food, two goats, hens and clothes for the family, I built a house for my sons who didn't have a place to sleep they used to sleep at my neighbors, pay workers who cultivated my farm and the rest of the money I used it to buy a heifer.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have a plan of building a two bed roomed house made of wood when I receive the transfers.The house we live in is made of mud, old and leaks during the rainy season.I will also buy one dairy cow to boost my income from milk.Finally I want to buy 20 layers chicks so that I can start practicing serious poultry farming.
What is the happiest part of your day?
After preparing my children to go to school early in the morning,I also go and teach in a school just across the road.I am a pre-school teacher and therefore by noon I am done with teaching.After lunch I go to my farm where I have grown beans.I come back home at around 4 pm.I milk the cows as the evening sets in.Morning is the happiest part of my day.This is when I am in school teaching.Teaching is my profession and I am passionate about it.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is financial constraints.I depend on agriculture as the main source of income.Agriculture is not reliable because of the harsh climatic conditions and crop diseases.Feeding my family has been a big challenge.Sometimes you get a little money but you cannot get maize flour to buy because of its availability.I am a pre-school teacher but I have not been formally employed by the county government.I depend on parents to pay me which I sometimes get just 1,000 Kenya shillings per month.This is too little to cater for my six children who need food ,clothes,shelter and education.
