Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received the money from GiveDirectly. Never before had I received such an amount of money befoe in my life let alone that which was non refundable. It was at this moment that it dawned to me that the plans that I had for a long time been having about improving the living standards were finally going to be actualized. We rejoiced and celebrated with the entire family on receiving tis transfer.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the dairy cow that I bought with this transfer. I never thought I would own one of my own anytime soon. I have been depending on casual labour to raise income and sustain my family. The casual works could however not provide us with enough money to buy food for the family and save up towards implementing this project. I could only wish to have enough money and have my own dairy cow that could provide us with enough milk for local cnsumption as well as surplus for selling to meet other family's needs. On receiving this transfer, we took it upon ourselves to put the plan into action and we have since bought one. Owening a dairy cow has given me a great sense of satisfaction knowing very well that the living standards of myfamily will be raised.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used part of my first transfer to buy a dairy cow. The remaining amount was used to buy food and clothes for my family members. I thought it wise to buy a dairy cow and bring to an end the hustle of having to look for money to be spent each day ij buying milk. With increased milk production, I am well aware that this will not only enable me have milk for the family but I can also sell the surplus to meet other family needs such as food. This will lead to improved living standards for my family and give me an opportunity to raise a happier family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Since we separated with my husband back in 2017, I have always relied on casual jobs such as weeding other people's farms so that I can provide food for my 3 year old child. Sometimes, when I don't get a job, I have to borrow milk from my parents so that my child does not sleep hungry. Receiving this money comes as a relief for me because my first priority is to ensure that I buy a dairy cow for my child. This cow will cost me approximately 30,000 shillings (30 USD). The remaining amount will enable me to buy approximately 4 goats. Thanks a lot GD.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I spend some time with my child. It makes me happy when we talk and play. My day entails doing house chores in the morning and looking for some casual jobs from my neighbors farms. It is in the evening that I return home and spend time with my son.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being a single mother with no source of income is a challenge in itself. Sometimes I have to borrow food and milk from my parents since lately, jobs have been hard to find due to heavy rains for the past 3 months.
