How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is totally different now because I have assets such as dairy cows and goats to depend on in case of any financial difficulties. I am so sure they will transform my life positively within a short period of time. In a few months to come, the dairy cows will be producing milk which will be specifically for commercial purposes and the remaining few liters will be for my family's consumption. The money that I will be earning from the sale of milk will use it in facing any financial challenge that I may encounter in my household. In addition to that, with the goats as they reproduce and multiply, I will be able to sell the offprings when they mature in order to invest the money and starting a business. From this point, then I will be having a stable source of income that will help me to meet my familys daily needs with ease.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did not let us down in any way. One I was enrolled free of charge without being asked some bribe and the money was directly sent into my account. I was also given the opportunity to choose what I would wish to buy with financial help. In addition to this organization is so trustworthy because the money came to the exact date as was promised. I do not see any sector that GiveDirectly failed us, all went well and am so grateful.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying some livestock such as two dairy cows KES 30000. I then bought some beddings which include a bed and mattress KES 10000. This was to replace the old traditional bed that I have been using since I was married. I then bought some iron sheets at KES 6000, this was to the completion of my new house which I had initially started using the first transfers, I then paid the mason KES 5000 as his labour fee. I then cleared a hospital bill of KES 2000 for my son who ha been sick for long. The remaining amount of money I am using it in buying some household items and some other household items.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
As a beneficiary of GiveDirectly, I thank them for bringing peace again in my life. My child had completed primary education and now was transitioning to high school. The money I had was not enough to adequately do shopping for him and pay fees. However, I am now at peace having received this financial support because my child is now comfortably in school. I did enough shopping and also cleared the fee for a whole term. To me, this is so far the biggest difference in my daily life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I remember receiving a message on my phone early in the morning. I was working at my farm when I heard a loud vibration from my phone. On checking, I realized that it was a message from GiveDirectly which indicated that I had received my first transfer. I was overjoyed such that I went back to my house to revealed the good news to my family. We celebrated. I really thank GiveDirectly for the money which has transformed my life.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
My child had completed his primary education and was soon transitioning to highschool. He made me proud and for this reason, I had to do everything to see him through secondary education. When I received my transfer, I remembered the promise that I had made and decided to spare a portion of the transfer to pay his school fees and did adequate shopping for him. In addition, I also purchased five goats at KES 13000. I am keeping these goats so that as they reproduce, I will be able to exchange them for cows. This will allow me to develop myself financially and maybe to start a business in the future. I am currently spending the remaining amount to buy daily foodstuffs for my family and paying for other household expenses.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My desire has been to construct a decent house for my family. After separating with my husband 5 years ago, I was forced to return to my maternal home since then and I have not been able to construct my own house due to inadequate financial resources. Currently, I am living with my children in the same room with my mother. Receiving this money means building my own house since I am planning to spend 200 dollars to build a one-roomed iron-roofed house for my family. I will also use the remaining amount to educate my firstborn who completed primary and is about to join secondary school next year.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I spend my morning walking from one farm to the other looking for weeding labor. I normally spend the whole day working as a labourer on my neighbour's farm until in the evening. It at the evening, when I can rest and eat with my children. Therefore, the evening is my happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
After separating with my husband, life has been so hard for me and meeting the needs of my family of 3 has been my biggest challenge. Casual labor is what I have known in my life and despite this job being laborious it earns me utmost 2 dollars per day. I usually spend this on food, leaving with nothing to save. Now that my firstborn is about to join secondary I was so worried that I may fail to further his studies. I am happy to hear about the transfer we are yet to receive. I will be able to aid his educational needs something that will give me a piece of mind.
