How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
If I could have not received this money from Give directly, I would have not been able to have a good house for my family. Since building a house needs a lot of money and in my life I had never even afforded or seen $100 in my entire life.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give directly doe's well in that, they sent me money directly to my account without giving it to someone to give it to me. This makes my work easy and even receive all the amount as sent. Give directly also do well by ensuring that, they follow up to check if I received the money and concerned on how I have spent the money.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used the money to buy building material such as; iron sheets, stones, sand and cement which I used to build a new house. I decided to build a house, because the house I was in before was leaking from the roof and water was also flowing into the house when it rains.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 6: 30 am when I was still on my bed then I heard my phone ringing. It was an indication that there was a new message. I curiously checked who it could be. I did not believe what I saw, it was an mpesa message from GiveDirctly. I was overjoyed and without wasting time, I started planning on how I could utilize it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Having have constructed my own permanent descent spacious house has brought the biggest difference in my daily life. This is because the previous one was very small and in very poor condition. Most of the time when it rained we could not sleep till the rains stop. In addition to that my children were always attacked with some asthma and pneumonia because of the cold nights. Besides that their academic life was also affected once they could not study at night because of the condition of the house. This was so heartbreaking. I feel having have constructed the house from financial support has really transformed my life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent a portion of my first transfer on buying some building materials such as bricks, some bags of cement and sand. This was for the construction of a new house, the previous one was in poor condition and very small. I was always being rained on because of the leaky roof. My children used to seek shelter from friends and relatives which was not right. I also paid school fees for my children who are still in primary schools for them to sit for their midterm exams. I later bought some new clothes for my children because their previous ones were all torn. The amount of money that had remained, I bought some enough foodstuffs for my family.

My happiest time of day is evening when I get to rest after a busy day of house chores such as cleaning and washing.
