How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My main goal was to build house, but I never had the money to build. I was glad to have received transfer from Givedirectly which has help me to purchase my building materials. I have also plan to start a business when my bhilding is completed which is my new goal.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly is doing well for us. We pray for you every day for the level of financial assistance. What time I could burn wood to get such money ? Givedirectly is doing well with no hesitation or condition.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have purchased building materials and pay my children tuition. I also used portion of the money to buy more food stuff for the house. I am planning to take on business when I shall have completed the construction of my house.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was working on the community peanuts farm and I heard my phone rang. I read the message and saw 40,375 from Givedirectly. I said oh God thank you, Givedirectly has helped us. My friends received the message about the same time as mine, we all grouped together and danced. It was a joyous day in Manzen Town.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Givedirectly made me to look big in my community. My house was really leaking and my friends were making mockery of me because of my house leakage. Fixing my house roof has brought me so much joy each day.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought two bundles of zinc to renovate my house, I bought 6 gallons of gas and black oil to start my coal business. I bought two bags of rice and other foodstuffs for my house. The rest of my money was saved.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I always worry during the rainy season. Whenever I go somewhere, and the rain starts to fall, I can be worrying because I know that all of my things will get wet behind my back. For each time the rain falls, my house can be filled with so much water. It makes me to feel very bad. Even when we are cooking our food and the rain starts to fall, it cuts off the fire. I'm not even praying for the rain to fall because you will not be able to sit down here to end the interview with me. When I get this money, the first thing that will do is to change the roof of my house with zinc because that will be the only way I will have a peace of mind. The remaining amount will be used to start a business to take care of my family and send my children to school.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Nothing has brought me any joy or happiness except for the fact that I am counted amongst the living. Everyday, when I get out of bed, I feel so happy with all the death news that I hear, my family and I are still living.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My greatest challenge now is to have money and provide food for me and my family. Presently, my husband is not working and there are no other means that we can use to get money except to make farm. The little money that we can get from the farm is used to feed us.
