How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I believe that were it not for Give Directly, I wouldn't have managed to complete building my house that was halfway done. For a long time now, the construction process was stopped because we didn't have enough money to complete it. But when Give Directly came it was a new dawn for us because we knew that we would complete the house which we have now moved in. Apart from that, I also purchased some clothes for our children. I feel proud because I used to get embarrassed when they wore indecent clothes. Our lives are now better and I thank Give Directly for that.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I believe that Give Directly is a transparent organization. I never noticed any dodgeful behaviour from how they were choosing the villages and the households in the villages they went to. I felt that they were fair because they visited every household and gave everyone an equal opportunity to get this help. I don't know their criteria but I believe they are considerate and unbiased. To me, I can't see anything they should stop doing. They are good at what they do.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of the second transfer I received from Give Directly to paint my newly built house. I had completed building the house recently and had to paint the walls to make it more attractive and complete. I used the other portion to buy bedding. We didn't have enough sheets and blankets for my family and I thought it was wise to buy them considering the cold weather in this region. I spent the remaining amount to buy food which would take us to the next harvesting season. I thank Give Directly for their love and support they have shown in this village.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Completing my house that I had been struggling to complete for a long time is the biggest blessing I have received. I had been working towards its completion for about two years. It has proofed to be too difficult to do this because all the money I could get would go towards the house leaving my families needs unattended. I rarely bought clothes for my children and we survived on less than three meals day. I can now I can spend the money I get form menial jobs on these other things.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had hardly completed my morning's work weeding a maize farm when I heard some commotions and ululations. Paying attention to the noise, I overheard someone on top of her voice saying that GiveDirectly has met their promise. I rushed to my house to check my phone. I passed through my mother in law's house to see if indeed the money had been sent. When I read the confirmation message to her she fell on her knees thanking God. I checked mine too and we both immediately went to look for an M-Pesa agent to withdraw the cash. I can't find words that can sufficiently describe the joy I had as I saw the mobile money agent handing me a large bundle of notes of thousands of shillings. This is the happiest moment in my life thus far.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
A long painstaking process of constructing a house came to an end when I received my first transfer. Constructing the house was only halfway after the last two years, so I used the money I received to complete it. I plastered the house, constructed the ceiling, and paid for the construction labor. I also bought bedding and utensils, I then bought clothes for myself and for my children. I also bought food.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
It has really been my hope to complete the construction of a new house in our household which had really taken a very long time under construction. Receiving this money means completion of the construction so that we may move into the new building with an ample space. We are also hoping that we will purchase a heifer with the remaining amount.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Waking up with good health every morning with everyone in our houseld feeling strong and ready to face a new day has been the happiest part of my day. This is the time when everyone is set to start the daily chores with my children seeing another happy day where they can interact with the neighbouring children as they play.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Squeezing ourselves into an old, small, leaking, grass-thatched house has been our biggest worry in our family. We have spent years assembling resources with my husband so that we can relieve the the distress of the cold due to the leaking roof during the rainy season. It has also been very hard handling visitors whenever they visit since we have always been taking them for a sleep over in the neighbor's wider room.
