Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference is that I have been able to start constructing a permanent house. Furthermore, I have been able to pay my child's school fees. This is an achievement to me and I am proud that I have accomplished it through GiveDirectly.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I remember receiving a mobile money message late at night. I read it and I was extremely delighted because I was hard up at that moment. I needed money to change my standards of living.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first cash transfer to purchase bricks worth UGX 550000 and iron sheets worth UGX 396000 and nails worth UGX 50000. I also bought two goats worth UGX 130000. I paid school fees for my child worth UGX 130000. I paid the builders UGX 300000. The balance was spent on buying food.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to pay my children's school fees, buy a cow that can reproduce and take care of some future eventualities and start up a business that can keep my money growing. I believe this will support my household. Providing the education needs for my children will be made easier.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest in the evening when all members of the family are free and we are chating.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Provision of the education needs of my children is the biggest hardship that I am faced with. I depend on agriculture for most of my requirements including school fees. If I don't cultivate then life is not easy for me. Some times the harvest is not very good based on climate changes. Pests and over use of the land have also affected the harvest in some instances. The land that I use never has time to fallow so I can only have less which I have to sell a given portion in order to provide school fees and other needs of the family. As a single parent, life is just not easy.
