My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have bought a dairy cow. I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me. I depend on small scale farming, the amount of money that I get through this is so small and cannot meet all the basic needs. I didn't had money to buy a dairy cow. When I received the second transfer I found it wise to invest on dairy farming. I no longer get stress up on where to get the money to buy milk. I have enough milk for my family unlike before. I sell the surplus milk to earn an income to meet other basic household expenditure. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard.

In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.

I spent part of the second transfer on buying a dairy cow, I also bought cements and I am still planning to renovate my house. Part of the money I used on my medication and the rest of I register for national hospital and insurance fund (NHIF).This will cut the daily cost of going for check ups.

It was lunchtime and I was at home having lunch with my family when I received the SMS saying that we had received the money that GiveDirectly had promised us. I was so happy when I saw this and I immediately informed the rest of the family members. They became so happy too on hearing. We celebrated and my neighbors who had received the transfers too joined us in the celebration.

This transfer has brought a big difference in our lives as a family. We have been able to build another house that we had for a long time desired to have. We hence have enough space for ourselves and our grandchild. I plan to take care of the calf and the two goats that we bought so that they can help us in the future. When the calf grows and reproduces, we will be able to get milk for our consumption and we can sell some. The money from the milk sales will help us with other important things such as buying food and paying for our grandchild’s school fees. The goats will reproduce too and multiply and hence we can sell some of the offsprings whenever we face an emergency. The transfer also helped me in curing myself. I usually have a problem with my waist and I was hence able to go to the hospital and I got the medicine that I usually take. The bag of maize that we bought will sustain us for a while and hence we will not be having worries about where to get money to buy food. The transfer also enabled us to pay school fees for our grandchild and hence we no longer have stress on where to get money to do the above. We were also able to buy new clothes, mattresses, and blankets. We have therefore been able to sleep well and comfortably unlike before when we did not have such items. We have always wanted to build another house because we have been living in only one house that is small and grass-thatched. The space in the house has hence not been enough for us and our grandchild. I also bought a calf and two goats because we do not have milk for our consumption and we usually buy it. Although we have always desired to do the above developments, we have not been in a position to because we are old and we are no longer able to work. We usually sell a few things that we have grown on our farm such as bananas, avocados, and vegetables to get the money that we use to sustain ourselves. This money that we get from the sale of those goods is only enough for us to buy everyday food and milk. Our children at times support us by sending us money to buy food and other necessities.
